@web@mastodon.derstandard.at Tja, #Geldverschwendung halt… Ich frage mich wieviele Geräte mehr @PCsfueralle@wien.rocks zusammenstellen könnte mit #UbuntuLTS #Desktop, #BunsenLabs #Linux oder gar #RaspberryPiOS!

@ChristosArgyrop@mastodon.social @Infoseepage@mastodon.social @thatdnaguy@genomic.social also with the whole Export Restictions BS demand gets up. Not to mention even if these cards - like Mining GPUs - can't plug in a display, they propably can still be used for #VDI (#Desktop #Virtualization) setups like "#Cloud" #Gaming & #CAD VMs...Worst-case some low- to mid-budget #animation studios & spechalized #datacenters will just gobble them up for @Blender@mastodon.social /@blender@video.blender.org workflows in #Flamenco.

So I have read some more about the whole #dioxus vs #tauri plus #leptos plus #axum for a #rust #rustlang #desktop app. From what I read by now, I would say that I will try the tauri route next. I would still prefer if Dioxus would just work, but what makes me wary about whether Dioxus would be a sustainable choice is that there's a lot of issues in the Dioxus repository that do not even have a reply by a maintainer. My own issues (which are relatively young!) have only little interaction. I get that this is an open source project and maintainer overload and so on, sure. But there's also something about Dioxus being funded? So there are full-time devs (plural!) working on it? What can I say? This makes me wary. Going down that tauri route would mean that I would need to build the whole thing myself. That could work, but is more than I would have liked to do. I want to develop my app functionality, not set up a GUI development environment. I could also go for a TUI first, but tbh, I would rather like to have a GUI first, with a clean API that I can then reuse to build a TUI on top of it. Not sure why, the other way around would probably work as well 🤔. Either way, I would then try leptos as framework for the app, because it looks rather good from what I can read from its documentation, and I can use axum in the backend, which I think fits my needs as well. (Btw developing this with ratatui with a axum backend would also be possible, but that's not the "native way" for a ratatui app, but much more for a leptos app as I understand it, so I expect less headaches here). I hope I can get a MVP fast, so I can get back to developing my core application stuff, because there's sooo much missing still.

Filip Fila and Nuno Pineiro are bringing the classic #Oxygen #theme back to Plasma Tastefully colourful icons, shadows, transparencies and shiny buttons are all part of the spectacular reimagined themes Air and Oxygen being painstakingly reconstructed from scratch by the designers. Filip includes download links in his blog post so you too can trial-run both themes now: https://filipfila.wordpress.com/2026/04/05/halfway-there-to-6-7-updates-on-oxygen-and-air/ #Plasma6 #desktop #FreeSoftware #OpenSource

Today I'm paying with Risc OS on an old Raspberry Pi. I wish modern desktops had paper like textured windows, a common title bar theme, and proper scroll bars. Everything's so plain and bland nowadays. /Rant #riscos #raspberrypi #retro #desktop

My desktop is KDE Plasma, but I also like to use GNOME apps. I find funny how this weird mix of Qt+GTK4 happens to be exactly like the weird mix of Win32+UWP on Windows. #Linux #Desktop #Windows #KDE #Plasma #GNOME #Qt #GTK #Win32 #UWP

Occasionally I wonder if I could popularise a new form of #divination based on the shuffling of #desktop images - a backgroundomancer. Looks like I have a portentous (and nature-filled?) weekend coming up! #photography #naturePhotography #technology #prophecy #occult #silly #TellingStories

One full week under the keel running Alpine Linux on my primary workstation. Even set root on a ZFS mirror - simple to setup. First experience with rEFInd as well - I like it. Sharp and snappy, just like the way I like my cars! Ha! No new revelations compared to the first few weeks on the test workstation... I'm still tweaking some things for personalization as it happens but all good. The Alpine repos are full of good stuff and are current/up2date in a practical manner. The only flatpaks I've had to run are Waterfox, Signal Desktop and messing around with the new CoMaps Linux version (this exists - happy! happy! joy! joy!). I'm going to migrate my Debian Bookworm servers to Alpine when I get around to the upgrades. I'll keep clients on Debian for the foreseeable future. I'm not sure why I'm so excited about Alpine, it just feels like a breathe of fresh air! Modern and simple. Enjoying it. #AlpineLinux #Linux #desktop #homelab #SelfHosted #Waterfox #Comaps #rEFInd

Vielen Dank! :mastolove:

Waydroid 1.6.0 released 🤖 Waydroid? It is a container-based compatibility layer to boot a full Android system on a regular desktop Linux operating system such as Linux Mint. Waydroid keeps Android isolated from the rest of the system yet allows access to the local system's hardware. https://github.com/waydroid/waydroid/releases/tag/1.6.0 #Android #Linux #desktop #mobile #Waydroid #releases
