@davidgerard@circumstances.run I mean, if I were eligible to their scheme (company time + age in years ≥ 70) I'd certainly take the money, selliff my #Microsoft shares and move to #Germany and start like an #IT consultancy spechalizing in moving #Corporations from #Windows to #Linux. But I'm neither a Microsoft employee nor shareholder!

@anon_8675309@lemmy.world Never messed with #WSL, does it give you the capability run a full-on WM the way we could with #cygwin? I used to use it to run #enlightenment on my #Windows computer at work. @Obin@feddit.org

@semifor@ack.nerdfight.online similarly I do @OS1337@infosec.space not just as an exercise in #Linux #basics, but also as contingency plan amidst #enshittification. Cuz I can't imagine being a "#TechIlliterate #Normie" using #Govware like #Windows. I'd rather quit than do that!

@patcharcana@furry.engineer nothing but refusing.to integrate #Malware like "#DRM" beyond #Steam, "#ClientSideAnticheat" and using obsure & undocumented #Windows functions (like #Microsoft and #Adobe do all the time just to prevent people from installing and using #MicrosoftOffice or #Photoshop on #Linux!)

I'm definitely changing my operating system to Linux Ubuntu. I mostly use a decent laptop (An ACER Aspire, 10th gen i3, 8 gb RAM) for my daily routine: google, mail, youtube, movies, music... it runs perfectly smooth with Windows 11, I don't need more than that, honesty. But: I know there are LOTS of apps running without knowing what they are, consuming my computer resources and constantly sending information without my permission (OK, with my permission, 'cause we all accept the conditions of Windows, if we use Windows xD ). So, I'm finally doing something about my digital autonomy, besides leaving centralized social media. Every day a new step! Go! What operating system do you use? #linux #ubuntu #socialmedia #windows

It's kind of funny just how much slower it is to write — and particularly test — #Windows oriented configuration-automation that's equivalent to #Linux oriented content (even using simplification frameworks like #SaltStack). Maybe it's just me, though. Maybe if I were more Windows-oriented, the relationship would be inverted (at least for the code-up part).

The days I tend to post more are the days where I'm working a Windows-heavy workload. With how much slower it is to iterate with #Windows EC2s, it leaves a lot more "dead" time that I tend to fill by reading from and/or posting to Fedi.

Recently this popped up, #Bluehammer a #Windows exploit that exploits Windows Defender for a local privilege elevation From user to system level.. It triggers a Defender scan and locks that after, so it can access a certain database that is been backed up while Defender scans to gain system level access GitHub now gives a warning for the repo it seems: https://github.com/Nightmare-Eclipse/BlueHammer Just be careful

I recently switched to #Linux Mint. I mean, the reasons are obvious so I will save that for a different time. What really struck me was just how easy it was to actually do it. Problems were minor and mainly due to the fact that I have an Nvidia card in my laptop. Aside from that, I was up and running quickly. Apps I wanted, (including Steam,) were easy to find and install. There were a couple apps that I needed to find replacements for, like Notepad++. Yesterday, I deleted my #Windows drive.
