@ChristosArgyrop@mastodon.social @Infoseepage@mastodon.social @thatdnaguy@genomic.social also with the whole Export Restictions BS demand gets up. Not to mention even if these cards - like Mining GPUs - can't plug in a display, they propably can still be used for #VDI (#Desktop #Virtualization) setups like "#Cloud" #Gaming & #CAD VMs...Worst-case some low- to mid-budget #animation studios & spechalized #datacenters will just gobble them up for @Blender@mastodon.social /@blender@video.blender.org workflows in #Flamenco.

@Infoseepage@mastodon.social @ChristosArgyrop@mastodon.social @thatdnaguy@genomic.social at least unlike #Shitcoin-#ASIC|s for the like of #Bitcoin these #GPU|s can at least be reused for something productive. Worst-case it'll make #Gaming, #CAD and #HPC "affordable" again.Best case we'll see actual #innovation outside of #Deepfake|s & #Disinformation campaigns!

@asdasd201@lemmygrad.ml The sad reality is that you will likely have no choice but to use AutoCAD since that's what your instructor wants you to use. Even if you are able to use something free/open, there is always a chance that something in the file will render incorrectly when loaded into AutoCAD. The best thing (I think) you could do is do the assignment in both #AutoCAD, and #CAD software of your choosing be that #FreeCAD, #QCAD, #blender, #LibreCAD, or something else with which I'm unfamiliar. After class, speak with your instructor and teach them that these things can be done using #FOSS solutions as well, could be they don't even know. Worst that happens is you'll have taught yourself how to do the same thing in different software. Everything that was taught (that I can recall) in the #drafting classes I took 30 years ago can be done in any of the softwares I mentioned, but I'm sure things are a bit different these days. It's quite irresponsible of educational institutions to push students into specific software, versus teaching concepts which can be translated across multiple. Teaching students only about expensive licenced software (regardless of providing free student licences) over the concepts used to accomplish the task, promotes ignorance over education, and encourages software pirating.

Hello Fediverse! It's been a while — about 5 months since I last touched FreeCAD. Today I got an order for medical equipment and updated straight to version 1.1. Honestly? It feels more powerful and stable. The new feature that shows hole depth visually before cutting? Game changer. Saves so much guesswork. The photos show titanium trauma plates for orthopedics. Used for bone fixation in severe fractures. I can't share most of the dev work until patents clear, but here's a glimpse of what's allowed. Big thanks to the FreeCAD team. You're the only ones doing this not for profit, but for the people. #FreeCAD #CAD #MedTech #OpenSource #Orthopedics #Engineering #FOSScad #Titanium

Finally looking to design something anew rather than simply printing others' designs with my Creality K1C. Facing some analysis paralysis with choice of modeling program so I thought I'd put up a poll. (pls boost) My preference would be to stick with one tool for simple designs and for something potentially more complex later, which is why I'm not specifying the project for the purpose of this poll. I am prepared for some pain, though I'd like to limit the amount of plastic wasted during prototyping. I do have calipers so at least I can get accurate measurements :) #freecad #openscad #cad #printing

KiCad 10 is released! Whilst we await our own significant releases, we wanted to take an opportunity to congratulate our wider open source family members, KiCad, on the recent release of KiCad version 10. https://blog.freecad.org/2026/03/23/kicad-10-is-released/ @kicad@fosstodon.org #KiCad #Opensource #CAD #electronics #PCB

#cad #freecad #linux #opensource #3d #3ddruck #nextcloud

When working with a fringe hobby such as mine and using a 3D printer, I often get comments like "Isn't that part like $19? Why bother fiddling with a 3D printer". While technically true, I'm not really after the money saving angle here. A pinball machine has a LOT of parts and owning over 30 of them means pretty insane parts stock. What usually breaks or wears out is very well known and a lot of it is compatible with a wide range of machines, such as coil sleeves and rubbers. Those I buy. But then there are unique parts, that were used only in a specific machine. Often those parts can be found with a web search, but they're not in stock anywhere or they'll take up to a month to arrive in this corner of the world. There's also cases where a tiny plastic part can fail, but you can only buy the whole assembly for $200. Being able to just print one means the game is back in the action often in hours and at least in my designs I don't just clone the parts, I also try to see why they break and make them sturdier and easier to install. I also hope more people would be inspired to share theirs, so there'd be a printable parts library out there when needed. #3dprinting #cad #restoration

auf Linux umsteigen ging zumindest für meinen privaten Gebrauch, einige beruflich nötige CAD, AVA und BIM Programme laufen dort noch nicht, oder weiß jemand Empfehlungen? #diday #linux #cad https://www.zeit.de/digital/2026-02/linux-umstieg-betriebssystem-alternative-tech-konzerne?freebie=569fd0b7
