I recently discovered ntfy.sh and it is brilliant in its simplicity. I am currently rewriting my bash scripts to drop AWS SNS in favor of it. Getting a direct push notification to my phone (and not only this) via a simple curl command is so much cleaner than setting up IAM roles and SNS topics. I still absolutely love email as a primary protocol, but my inbox really does not need to know every single time a cron job finishes successfully 😅 #SelfHosted #Bash #DevOps #Linux #ntfy #HomeLab #AWS #Fediverse #Linux

Saw this tip on Reddit and had to share. If you use #Unraid with the AppData backup plugin set the compression to "Yes, Multicore" and it will reduce the backup time significantly with the increase in CPU of course. I was running some AWS CLI commands today and found this string in the output: "AccountCreatedDate": "2015-03-11T15:06:45Z" I completely missed the 11-year anniversary last month. Since I was born in 1995, I was only 19 when I opened this account. It is wild to realize I have been tied to Big Tech infrastructure for over a third of my life without really thinking about it. Back then, the cloud felt like the ultimate solution. But today, my main goal is to move away from it. Nerderei der letzten Woche: #immich Ich war auf der Suche nach einem Foto, was ich mal in den letzten 10 Jahren mit dem Handy geschossen hatte. Bisher habe ich alle Fotos ordentlich quartalsweise auf dem Gerät und dem NAS, sowie in der Cloud abgelegt und alles immer im Zugriff, aber ohne Chance dieses eine Foto schnell unter tausenden zu finden. Ich hatte zuviel Zeit und die #linux VM mit #docker war schnell aufgesetzt. Fazit: Ich bin total begeistert was das Tool alles kann. Nichts überlebenswichtiges, aber an den Geo Informationen und der Timeline habe ich ja echt Spaß. Das hat mir noch mal einen ganz neuen Blick in die Fotosammlung beschert. Darf nun weiter laufen und das #homelab hat eine #vm mehr, die gepflegt werden möchte...

Three of my mini-PC power supplies have died over the last 2–3 months. That’s half my #K8S cluster unavailable right now. 😓 All three nodes are old Optiplex 3010s, and their #QuickSync support isn’t great anyway. Right now #Plex / #Jellyfin is pinned to a single node with the “newest” CPU for transcoding. Debating whether to replace the PSUs or just upgrade the dead nodes to newer mini-PCs. #homelab #kubernetes #k8s

Man baut ein Homelab. Alles läuft stabil. Und plötzlich ist die wichtigste VM einfach weg. Kein Crash. Kein Fehler. Nur der Linux OOM-Killer, der beschlossen hat, dass ausgerechnet diese VM gehen darf. I’ve been working on custom #MCP tools to better tie my stuff together. It’s connected to the Assist functionality in #HomeAssistant allowing me to do things like:

  • add items to grocery/personal/household to-do lists.
  • check or update quantities of items in my #HomeBox inventory
  • ask for weather forecasts for anywhere

Moving cachyos from my z13 flow 64gb to my brand new shiny 9850x3d+5080 was not simple, but was pretty easy. Disabled secure boot, installed nvidia drivers and redid the secure boot keys. Lordy it's fast. I forgot how much better per dollar a desktop is. #pcgaming #homelab
