New metric shows renewables are 53% cheaper than nuclear power A new metric for assessing total system costs puts a least-cost mix of offshore wind and solar at about €46 ($54.20)/MWh in a future climate-neutral energy system for Denmark. Researchers tell pv magazine that figure is less than half the equivalent cost of nuclear under the same conditions. https://www.pv-magazine.com/2026/04/17/new-metric-shows-renewables-are-53-cheaper-than-nuclear-power/ #renewableenergy

The Guardian | Britain breaks solar energy record twice as UK’s biggest solar farm gets approval by Jillian Ambrose Energy correspondent Record high set on Monday and raised on Tuesday, with 14.4GW of electricity generated in sunny spring weather Britain’s sunny spring weather powered the grid to new solar energy records on two consecutive days this week. Solar farms in England, Wales and Scotland generated 14.1 GW of low-carbon electricity at lunchtime on Monday, surpassing the previous high of 14GW in July last year. Continue reading... The Guardian | Turkey to race ahead of EU on battery storage amid fossil fuel crisis by Ajit Niranjan Europe environment correspondent More than 33GW of battery capacity approved for Turkish grid since 2022 compared with 12-13GW in Germany Turkey has given the green light to more batteries to buffer its electricity grid than any EU member state, a report has found, in a further sign of rich countries losing steam in the race to a clean economy. More than 33GW of battery capacity have been approved in Turkey since 2022, according to the climate thinktank Ember, while the total planned and operational capacity in European frontrunners that started deploying them earlier, such as Germany and Italy, is 12-13GW. The Guardian | More drilling in North Sea ‘not the answer’ for UK energy security, say former military leaders by Matthew Taylor Government told to focus on transition to mix of wind, solar, tidal and nuclear energy More drilling in the North Sea would do nothing to improve the UK’s energy security, former military leaders have said, as a new analysis finds no fossil fuel importer is safe from chokepoints in the global supply chain. The government should focus on a rapid transition to a mix of wind, solar, tidal and nuclear energy to ensure the UK’s future security, the former military leaders told the Guardian, as well as a programme of energy efficiency and a “major renewal” of the electricity grid. The Guardian | Europe’s ‘staggering’ clean power gains undermined by failure to phase out fuel-burning machines by Ajit Niranjan Europe environment correspondent The EU’s reluctance to replace petrol cars and gas boilers keep it hooked on foreign fuels, say industry groupsEurope has made “staggering progress” in producing clean power but neglected efforts to phase out fuel-burning machines, the head of an industry group said as the global oil crisis deepens.Adrian Hiel, director of the Electrification Alliance, said the EU has “radically transformed” its power supply and must now focus on getting “more electricity into the stuff we use every day”. I’ve just seen someone make a good point in response to all the people that moan that solar cells don’t work when the sun isn’t shining and that wind turbines don’t turn when the wind isn’t blowing: oil doesn’t work when the Straight of Hormuz isn’t Hormuzing! #RenewableEnergy #SolarPower #WindTurbines #StopTheWar

It was supposed to be sunny today. It is thus far, not. However the still 100% cloud coverage is the thinnest it has been all week, except for a few very brief Sol Peekaboos yesterday. We’re on track for our best solar production day ever. Yay! #Solar #renewableenergy #DisOldHouse #KC #RooftopSolar #Resist

Sooooo. A nice IBEW fella came, knocked on the door said we’d have a small blip in power while he confirmed the install AND added the extra meter. Today we formally add solar to the list of things we harvest here at #MacJohnsonFarm, phase 3. Exporting power even with it being super cloudy out. Weeee! #SolarPower #Solar #DisOldHouse #RenewableEnergy #RooftopSolar #KC #Missouri

#IranWar #iran #oil #renewableenergy #renewables #trump Congratulations!! Inflation coming!! “Oil prices rose sharply Monday as disruptions to tanker traffic through the Strait of Hormuz raised uncertainty about how U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran would affect supply to the world economy. U.S. oil traded 7.6% higher at $72.12 per barrel, while international standard Brent was up 8.6% at $79.11 per barrel. Natural gas futures in Europe jumped more than 40% after Qatar, a major supplier, halted production due to the conflict. Higher oil prices raise the prospect of costlier gasoline for U.S. drivers as well as increased prices for other goods at a time when people in many countries have been stung by inflation.” https://apnews.com/article/oil-prices-iran-us-hormuz-tanker-8a6d6fb35c89d9b0db4c4846f290c2c3

@TechConnectify@mas.to Great video! Whereas #biofuel is considered a #renewableenergy, it's mostly true in the longer term, and won't be as helpful with solving the #cllimatecrisis here and now. I want to buy my electricity from solar, wind, and hydro energy only. No nuclear fission or plant burning sources, thanks.
