@Cal@kind.social @azteclady@kind.social that's exactly my #NuancedOpinion. It would be ableist af to deny you your own voice & words!I merely hinted at #SoundCloud and #PasteBin so it's easy to consume and share, and because #Spotify and #Substack are garbage platforms hosting garbage personalities…Noone expects or demands you to "#SelfHost or GTFO!" stuff on like an MkDocs-Material with Privacy- and Blog - Extensions. And I'm certain you have more pressing concerns re: your content…

Finally, I have to control power for a bunch of different kinds of electricity: 5V DC for activating relays24V AC for activating valve actuators120V single-phase AC for some pool equipment240V two-phase AC for the pump and heater That's a lotta stuff in one box. For the higher voltage stuff (120V and 240V) I'm using these contactors like you might use in HVAC equipment. Note that they're activated by 24V AC, which I happen to have. The problem with these guys is that they're BIG. They take up a lot of room in the box. I like the /thwack!/ they make when they engage, because it's a nice audible confirmation that it has activated. But they're hard to fit into the box. Are there simpler relays that are raspberry pi friendly and I can use instead of these contactors? We're talking about 120V single phase at 10A and 240V two-phase at 12A. I'd just like to use something that takes up less space if possible. #homeautomation #selfhost

I’ve been working on custom #MCP tools to better tie my stuff together. It’s connected to the Assist functionality in #HomeAssistant allowing me to do things like:

  • add items to grocery/personal/household to-do lists.
  • check or update quantities of items in my #HomeBox inventory
  • ask for weather forecasts for anywhere

Age verification for the services I run? Solved. I look in my passport, verify that I am 18 years or older, look in the mirror to check that it is really me and after that I install Yet Another Service on my server to become less dependent on big tech :) #SelfHost #SysAdminLife #SarcasmButOnlyHalf

RE: https://mas.to/@alternativeto/116131395595643898 I've been looking for an alternative since yesterday. Perhaps #VaultWarden? I'll at least get it set up and see if it's any better since I last tried it... #1Password #pricing :bear_fire: :nkoThisIsFine: #selfhosting #selfhosted #selfhost

That was close 😓 The SSD in my server was down to 2% life, at 0% it goes into read only mode.. or just outright fails. It definitely wouldn't boot anymore. I bought a replacement drive, an Intel data centre SSD. I cloned the server drive to the new one today, thankfully #nextcloud is back up and running. Make sure you make #backups people, particularly if you #selfhost it will work until it doesn't. I should have received warnings about the drive condition, oh well.

Observation: Google is currently the biggest spreader of phishing mails, Cloudflare hides/hosts the phishing sites these mails link to. That's the simple truth on my mailserver since a few weeks. And yes, I manually report every single one of them to no visible avail. #SelfHost #MailAdmin #Phishing @homelab@fedigroups.social

I can't help it, I love beautiful, modern, minimal designs. Most user interfaces just don't appeal to me. Book apps, in particular, often feel old-fashioned. There's nothing wrong with old things though; retro tech from the 80s and 90s has its own charm, and people really knew how to make beautiful things back then. But bad UI is a different story, it's clumsy, built with off-the-shelf frameworks without much thought, and often lacks proper design guidelines, plan or structure. That's why I can't use Bookwyrm, for example. I read a lot and have mostly been using https://getbookshelf.com on iOS along with a CSV file since leaving Goodreads. Right now, I'm checking out alternatives. Even StoryGraph doesn't quite do it for me. https://margins.app looks promising, and Bookcover is okay but missing some features. So, if in another world I decided to make my own fork and app, contribute to Bookwyrm, and completely refresh its UI like I did for Mastodon with the Mastodon Bird UI - what would you think of that? #Books #BookApps #Margins #BookWyrm #UI #UIDesign #FrontEnd #BookTrackers #OwnYourData #SelfHost
