SignalRGB is closed source freeware to sync and control all the RGB on my PC and accessories but I happily pay their annual subscription to support development and get new features Discord is closed source freeware too but I've never even considered paying for their annual subscription I don't fully know what drives that difference for me. #Software

Great news, the Moto G Stylus is no longer teeming with bloatware A phone for people who like pens. The 2026 edition of Motorola's stylus phone is plenty appealing. open-source-code zum verkauf verwursten

obviously some "business people" try to steal open source code and try to take possession of it in a "legal" way: by running it through ai and "recreating" it without all the opensource stuff like GPL and such attached. so they think they can sell it, license it however they want without this GPL commons impediment. as @@pluralistic@mamot.fr puts it in this article: This is the risk that Nolan and his partner are trying to awaken the free/open source community to: that our commons is about to be raided by selfish monsters who serve as gut-flora for the immortal colony organisms we call "limited liability corporations," who will steal everything we've built and destroy the social contract we live by. gut flora and immortal colony organisms ... i seriously doubt that any german politician would ever understand this meaning ... :-) @@pluralistic@mamot.fr even shows a way out, one that the colony organisms most probably didn't think of:  no copyright for ai generated stuff, neither books, nor pictures, nor music nor code. the principle that copyright is strictly reserved for human creativity isn't remotely controversial in legal circles. This is just how copyright works. Which means that the "be evil" version of Malus's business model has a fatal flaw. While the code that Malus produces is indeed "legally distinct" with "no attribution" and "no copyleft," it's not true that there are "no problems." That's because Malus's code doesn't have "corporate-friendly licensing." Far from it: Malus's code has no licensing, because it is born in the public domain and cannot be copyrighted. this means: If you give me code that Malus produced, you can't stop me from doing anything I want with it. I can sell it. I can give it away. I can make a competing product that reproduces all of your code and sell it at a 99% discount. let just hope doctorow is right with his assessment. #computer #OpenSource #GPL #raub #diebstahl #software #programme #Lizenz RE: https://mamot.fr/@pluralistic/116454017121705714

AI doesn’t understand how it feels to ship an app. We do. We’ve designed software for 30 years and still love the feeling of launching something new. So let us help design your app. Icons, UI design, logos… whatever you need help with, no project is too big or too small: https://iconfactory.com #AppDesign #software #dev

An ex-Azure engineer published six essays arguing Microsoft's cloud has been on life support since 2008, and the cause isn't bad code. It's bad people decisions. Rushed launch, post-launch talent exodus, no testing discipline, no architectural vision. Sound familiar to anyone who's worked in a place that ships first and staffs later? Now layer 2026 on top. Microsoft cut roughly 15,000 jobs in mid-2025. Coding agents are pumping out 4x more commits in 90 days. GitHub's unofficial uptime has slipped under 90% and the proposed fix is, wait for it, moving more of GitHub onto Azure. The same Azure the engineer says is held together with rushed decisions and wishful thinking. 🧠 The phrase that stuck with me is "knowledge dilution from high attrition." When the senior people who knew why a system was built that way leave, no LLM in the world can recover that context 🤖 More AI-written code does not mean less work. It means more code to review, test, deploy, and run, which means more compute and more humans needed downstream 📉 OpenAI signing an $11.9B compute deal with CoreWeave in March 2025 was the loudest "we don't trust your capacity" signal Microsoft has ever received from its closest partner 🪑 The bet that AI lets you cut headcount keeps colliding with the reality that AI generates work for humans faster than it removes it Every CIO I talk to is being pitched the same dream: fewer engineers, more agents, lower run rate. The Azure story is what happens when that math doesn't pencil out and the bill comes due in incidents instead of dollars. https://www.theregister.com/2026/04/04/azure_talent_exodus/ #Azure #AI #Leadership #security #privacy #cloud #infosec #cybersecurity #software #devops

@petrillic@hachyderm.io Worse is when you have folks in other juristictions use a "non-license" that isn't legally accepted like "#PublicDomain". #0BSD is by far the most permissible for #Software, but #licensing may have good reasons for beibg chosen.#CC0 is the closest to "public domain" (except the authorship disavowal part) for creative works (incl. writing)I'm not a lawyer and AFAIK there's only #downstream forward compatibility for #copyleft, so yeah, not easy if impossible!
