genAI and email: the end of unfiltered communication Sensitive
At work we use MS Outlook for email. I have switched off all genAI / Copilot features, but Microsoft of course resets the system at every opportunity and the other day I had Copilot on against my wishes. I was busy and left it on whilst I dealt with some urgent emails. Jeez! The intrusive way in which the interface pushes the genAI features on you! Can't open someone's email without being steered by the system to have AI summarise it for you. It's barely a choice, more the default. I imagine many colleagues have it on all the time and use it when they get my carefully crafted messages. The times when you could assume that the recipient actually sees your text are gone. I know that people are bad at parsing emails, but thus far one could assume they _see_ the text and one could write to help them parse it reasonably well. Not any more. The times we live in. @mthie@fedi.mthie.com nun, es gibt mit @delta@chaos.social ne passende Lösung samt echter #E2EE (also #SelfCustody aller Schlüssel!) die anders als @signalapp@mastodon.world auch #GoBD / #HGB-konformceinrichtbar ist sodass #Archivierung funktioniert. Weil #deltaChat nutzt #eMail! Ich sehe aber #Signal hier in der Mitverantwortung, weil zentralisierte, proprietäre Lösung = Verantwortung…

@jwildeboer@social.wildeboer.net I mean, since #eMail does allow for "Store & Forward" setups (With early Networks literally mailing tapes and then uucp'ing #eMails locally, I'd not be surprised if @delta@chaos.social is used that way by many dissidents instead paper to communicate externally. Heck I'm shure folks at #AsiaOress's #RimjinGang are exploring it for #airgapped communication alog their #SneakerNet.

Same goes for anything else: Regardless if #XMPP+#OMEMOIf say 5222.de is down the only ones noticing are their users and their contacts.Or #PGP/MIME.And that is it's strenght. In fact #eMail is so powerful that @delta@chaos.social / #deltaChat is getting popular in #Russia because even if they wanted to, (they don't, obviously!) they couldn't comply with #Roskomnadnozr's #Cyberfascism!

Anyone have recommendations for Thunderbird alternatives? Maybe just a case of: This thing is bad, but all the alternatives are not any better #email I've been using Thunderbird almost as long as it has been available. Still using it. Every once in a while I attempt to look at alternatives. For the most part, Thunderbird works for me and I have strongly recommended it in the past.
