Movim 0.33 "Halley" is Out! ✨ After months of work and hundreds of commits, this is the biggest Movim release ever made! This release massively scales up Movim's architecture while introducing exciting features such as Spaces, Hats or improved screen-sharing during video-conferences. Thanks to @nlnet@social.nlnet.nl funding a lot of work was also done to improve accessibility. Hoy fuimos al liceo a dejar a mi hija y resulta que otro boludito escribio en el baño que hoy hay tiroteo y eso... entonces llamaron a la policia, empezaron con el protocolo... nunca avisaron que se suspendian las clases... nos enteramos cuando llegamos que estaban suspendidas las clases. Cuando pregunte porque no habian mandado aviso, dijeron que los adscriptos empezaron a avisar a los alumnos y mapadres y que el whatsapp que usan, llego al limite de envios y a la mitad no le pudieron avisar... El efecto de red es tan pero tan grande, que inclusive con estas limitaciones que le complican la vida a todo el mundo... lo aceptan asi como es y nadie se queja #whatsapp #xmpp #efectodered #networkeffect #uruguay

Same goes for anything else: Regardless if #XMPP+#OMEMOIf say 5222.de is down the only ones noticing are their users and their contacts.Or #PGP/MIME.And that is it's strenght. In fact #eMail is so powerful that @delta@chaos.social / #deltaChat is getting popular in #Russia because even if they wanted to, (they don't, obviously!) they couldn't comply with #Roskomnadnozr's #Cyberfascism!

hey #xmpp ppl I have a group chat and I end up in the situation where my @dino@fosstodon.org on #linuxphone doesn't trust to one member and another group member client doesn't trust to my client. We are, a chat members physically far from each other. Could you guide what is the best way to remotely fix it? Thank you.

Tonight’s Spaces status:

  • Numerous stability fixes ✅
  • Notifications are properly working ✅
  • Admins can set admin/member role to user users ✅

There is still some notifications feature to be done… and stability improvement and I think I’ll be good to merge a first preview of the Spaces in Movim 👀 Interested to try it out ?

I repeat that everything done so far works on a standard #ejabberd #XMPP server without any specific hack. It is just very basic MUC + Pubsub XMPP put together so it should work “out of the box” (minor a small config to declare where the Spaces are created) to work ✨

Les recordamos que nuestros servidores, además de proveer esta distinguida instancia, también aloja un servidor XMPP :xmpp: que es incluso, anterior a la instancia de Mastodon :memeface1:. Es de los primeros servicios que tuvimos en Undernet junto con el correo electrónico :gmail:. XMPP es un sistema de mensajería federado y descentralizado :anarchoheart2:, como Mastodon, donde cada servidor tiene cuentas, y puede agregar cuentas de otros servidores y asi chatear. Existen salas públicas y privadas a las que uno puede unirse o crearlas si no existen. Nuestro admin @gabriel@mastodon.uy :ombu: ha hecho una recopilación de muchas de estas salas en su blog :wp: --> https://publicar.uy/salas-de-mensajeria-xmpp-en-espanol/ XMPP es un protocolo que existe desde fines de los 90s :computerfairies: y se le han ido agregando cosas, porque es un protocolo modular. Hoy en día se pueden hacer hasta llamadas de audio :radio_handheld: y video :youtube:, compartir imágenes :purple_sunset:, ubicación :google_maps:... etc. Nuestro servidor al igual que Mastodon Uruguay, y todos los servicion de Undernet, están integramente alojados en Uruguay en forma autogestionada e independiente :antel: :ute: :mate: :mate2:🇺🇾 y tiene en total unas 300 cuentas registradas en los dos dominios que administramon que son @undernet.uy y @buzon.uy de las cuales se conectan diariamente unas 70+ :memeface4:. El servidor esta conectado con otros 600 servidores XMPP. Si no lo probaste, podes bajarte un cliente como Conversations, Monocles, Xabber para android, Snikket para iPhone o Gajim y Dino para Lunux :conversations: :gajim: :android: :fdroid: :dino: :apple_inc: :gnu: :tux: e incluso clientes para terminal :crt_w_prompt: y registrar una cuenta en nuestro servidor u otros. I have tried to deploy #Snikket. Gave up after I didn't manage to convince it to not manage TLS certificates itself. I have tried to deploy #Prosody, Snikket's underlying project. Gave up after I didn't manage to configure it enough for it to be happy. I have tried to deploy #ejabberd. Gave up after I realized how underdocumented and confusing the configuration is, convinced I wouldn't be able to secure it enough. Is there really no good #XMPP server that would just work? I am annoyed.

@blackwolf@meow.social I just got my band set up on a #selfhosted #Matrix / #Element. This is controversial for a number of reasons - but I'm comfortable doing the grunt work to make it happen in a way I can live with. For my non-techie friends coming over, it's close enough and they picked it right up. Our needs are basic and are covered. I realise this will not fit everyone's needs, and it's a sprawling project choked with #enshittification at the moment, but if you can sift down through it all, you might find something that works. (Not very encouraging - I know. I'm sorry - it's a little dire out there.) Another alternative that I run is #xmpp. It's less like discord than most Matrix clients, but it's fast and light - time tested and has e2ee. There is also #NextCloud Talk. I don't use it much, but it works as well as xmpp or matrix in my experience.
