@GerhardD@olching.social and btw, Delta Chat already have channels (Telegram style) where there is one admin and other people are just subscribers that can only read, not modify any state nor see the list of subscribers, this channels are also completely p2p on top of the transport layer, end-to-end encrypted without any server dependency, so they are basically unblockable because admin can always move to another relay node, you are no where to have something like that in #matrix @tchambers@indieweb.social @semurjengkol@misskey.sangeunahna.com

The signup workflow for my Matrix instance is giving even my more technically adept friends issues. I shouldn’t have to also host a wiki for people that work with technology to be able to use my instance. That and the fact that Matrix was born out of the IDF have just soured me on the whole thing. I’m probably going to scrap it and give Fluxer a try next. #matrix #fluxer #discord

Ok just have to figure out what it takes to get Matrix Authentication Services up and going. Sync works, Federation works, signups, captcha, all the rest. From what I can tell MAS will at least make getting the mobile apps going less of a hassle. #matrix #discord #element

I’m an admin on a pretty large and very active Discord server but we’ve spent the weekend getting a new self hosted Matrix instance setup. Things are mostly working so far. Having some issues with device registration on mobile and user sync ATM but signups are working and the bones of the services seem to be all functional. I’ll be getting our server sync scripts running this week to start syncing the Discord and Matrix instances to fully pave the migration path. We plan on likely shutting the Discord down at the end of March if everything goes well. #matrix #discord #element

@blackwolf@meow.social I just got my band set up on a #selfhosted #Matrix / #Element. This is controversial for a number of reasons - but I'm comfortable doing the grunt work to make it happen in a way I can live with. For my non-techie friends coming over, it's close enough and they picked it right up. Our needs are basic and are covered. I realise this will not fit everyone's needs, and it's a sprawling project choked with #enshittification at the moment, but if you can sift down through it all, you might find something that works. (Not very encouraging - I know. I'm sorry - it's a little dire out there.) Another alternative that I run is #xmpp. It's less like discord than most Matrix clients, but it's fast and light - time tested and has e2ee. There is also #NextCloud Talk. I don't use it much, but it works as well as xmpp or matrix in my experience.
