TOMORROW at 9pm eastern (that's 1am Monday UTC) it's #MONSTERDON the weekly monster movie watch party! Come watch a B-grade stinker with a bunch of nerds! This week we're watching HERCULES IN NEW YORK (1970)! Arnold Schwarzenegger's acting debut, the movie features Zeus sending Hercules to modern New York. Hilarity, needless to say, ensues. It's pretty awful, they even dubbed over Schwarzenegger's voice. @CharlotteEowyn@chaosfem.tw A lot of the HFY ( Humanity, F**k Yeah!) Sci-Fi stuff on Reddit and YouTube very much fits into this category. Mostly consisting of pesky aliens getting outclassed by or receiving a good thumping from humanity. It rarely portrays humanity as being the unreasonable party. If you exclude this and the stories of lost alien princesses which fill the galaxy and continually need rescuing there are still some worthwhile stories but you have to hunt for them. #hfy #scifi #fiction

@cstross@wandering.shop The #arque from Keio University has had a lot of coverage since 2019. But none of it appears to address a fundamental (sic!) point that I was first caused to think about when reading Jack L. Chalker's Well Of Souls series, where a character's body being altered to have a tail by a sadistic slaver is a plot point. There's not a single picture, nor a single mention, in the gushing coverage that I have seen, of a wearer sitting down. It's a really basic aspect of the whole thing, and is totally ignored; which (alongside the 6 years that have passed since) tells us all that we need to know about how blinkered the engineering that went into this is and how uncritical the journalists regurgitating the press releases have been. Most things of this kind that have reached real medical use have had a fair amount of thought put into how the user eats, sleeps, sits, dresses, goes to the toilet, and suchlike. @MissConstrue@mefi.social #tails #SciFi #WellOfSouls #JackLChalker #KeioUniversity

Hi fedi folk - It’s lovely to be here! I just moved from mastodon.social to sunny.garden and think it’s time for an #introduction. I’m Bearina, 30-something from Mannheim, Germany. I make #zines, #ArtistTradingCards and have become a #printmaker recently. I also got back into #photography a few days ago which was my first hobby. I got my first point and shoot camera when I was 12 and fell in love with it before that, using my parents camera and strolling through the neighborhood. I like seeing creativity around me and love to get inspired by other artists. #SciFi is my jam and I love movies in general. And bears! Lovely creatures. #DeGoogling right now! Vilkaisin Jalavan syksyn 2026 katalogia ja innostuin! Octavia E. Butlerin Ksenogenesis-trilogia julkaistaan uudelleen, tällä kertaa myös sähköisinä versioina. Ja tietysti uusilla kansilla! Vanhat käännösten kannet 90-luvulta olivatkin karseat, sillä niissä häivytettiin tummaihoinen päähenkilö. Lisäksi on luvassa myös Butlerin Kindred-kirjan käännös suomeksi, vaikka ei ehkä tänä vuonna. Luen ehdottomasti kaikki uusiksi ja hankin omaan sähköiseen kirjahyllyyn. Brandon Sandersonilta on julkaistu Wax and Wayne -sarjan kaksi ekaa osaa ja kesällä ja syksyllä on tulossa seuraavat kaksi. Vaikka kuinka selailisi suomeksi julkaistujen spefikirjojen tietokantaa, aina löytyy jotain yllättävää. Olen monesti saanut suosituksia tutustua Kim Stanley Robinsonin kirjoihin ja moni niistä on kiinnostanut. Lukulistalla on järkäleitä. Nyt huomasin, että Antarktika on suomennettu v. 2000. Mitä??? Miten tämä on mennyt ohi minulta. Onneksi kirja löytyi edullisesti nettidivarista, joten poimin sen itselleni. #sciencefiction #kirjat #scifi
