🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 More than 170 road safety projects are being delivered across #Scotland with over £14 million in #Scottish Government funding for 2025–26. The Road Safety Improvement Fund supports councils to introduce measures aimed at reducing accidents and improving safety on local roads. Schemes include junction upgrades, bend safety treatments with motorcycle-friendly barriers, improved road markings, pedestrian crossings, traffic calming and vehicle-activated signs. Some areas are also trialling new technology such as intelligent solar road studs. Each project will be assessed after one and three years to measure its impact on reducing casualties and risk. The funding also supports safer conditions for active travel, including #walking and #cycling, as part of wider efforts to improve road safety and move towards making Scotland’s roads the safest in the world by 2030. https://www.transport.gov.scot/news/improving-safety-on-local-roads/

🚄🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 #ScotRail has begun seeking finance for a new suburban fleet of at least 69 trains, with options for up to 37 more, ahead of their planned introduction in the early 2030s. The operator will enter a rolling stock lease once the #trains are in service. A separate process to appoint a manufacturer was launched last November. The trains are expected to serve routes including East #Kilbride, Fife, the Borders and Glasgow’s inner suburban lines. Planned features include air-conditioning, improved reliability, step-free access, and more space for bicycles and wheelchairs. The #Scottish Government has approved the procurement, which is being aligned with electrification works by Network Rail. Network Rider ticket prices will change from 1 March, with revised fares applying across South Wales. The tickets allow unlimited travel on most bus operators in the region, offering an option for journeys not covered by Cardiff Bus services, including commuting and leisure trips further afield. Prices for #Cardiff Bus-only tickets remain unchanged. The updated day fares are £10.50 for adults, £7.30 for children and £21 for a family ticket. #English or #Scottish concessionary card holders will pay £7.30 for a day ticket. Weekly fares will be £32.50 for adults and £22 for children and concessionary card holders. The #Scottish #Government has accepted in full 11 recommendations aimed at strengthening safety and tackling antisocial behaviour on the rail network. A report by the Rail Enforcement Powers Working Group, involving operators, trade unions and police, examined how existing powers are used and where they could be improved. It considered fixed penalty notices, repeat offending, protection for rail staff, youth justice and railway byelaws. Measures already under way include replacing ScotRail’s blanket #alcohol ban with time-limited restrictions and progressing legislation to increase antisocial behaviour fines and widen the use of fixed penalty notices. Work will also look at consistent enforcement and closer partnership between #ScotRail, councils and police. A £2 cap on single adult and child bus fares has been introduced in #Shetland from today (30 January) as part of a 12-month #Scottish Government pilot. The Regional Bus Fare Cap Pilot aims to make bus travel more affordable, attractive and easier to plan. The scheme is being rolled out in phases across the ZetTrans and HiTrans areas, beginning in Shetland, with further expansion across the Highlands and Islands to follow. #Transport Secretary Fiona Hyslop said the pilot delivers a key Budget commitment and supports fairer, more accessible public transport.
