@FediFollows@social.growyourown.services you ought to include the contacts of #opensource champions like the #developers of #linux #distros like #mxlinux #linuxMint #debian #archlinux, #developers of some prime #mastodon instances, #piefed instances, #codeberg , #github and email services like #mailo and #proton. That way, we would be able to reach out to them through #socialmedia whenever we need their support. This informal channel is oftentimes better than your regular email.

#linuxmint has been successfully installed. When shutting down the computer, it stops after the 'powerOff' command and does not switch off or disconnect from the mains. What settings need to be adjusted to ensure it switches off completely? #linux #help #hilfe #introduction @linuxmint@mastodon.social https://pleroma.envs.net/notice/B5QAxFyvuhpgeEUHmi

This week's Linux and FOSS news: LINUX NEWS Ubuntu, Fedora, Linux Mint Eye Age Verification Amid California Law Backlash: https://9to5linux.com/ubuntu-fedora-linux-mint-eye-age-verification-amid-california-law-backlash (Seems like a new era has begun, even Linux isn't fully immune to the invasion of digital freedom, but we're fine for the most part, we can just lie about our age because we aren't required to provide photo ID or selfie unlike on some of the normie platforms. And even if another law comes out requiring Linux too to ask for a personal id, they can't do much to actually enforce it on the thousands of volunteers) (Flathub and Snap Store having to comply is a much bigger deal though, since those are corporate entities (or at least it's planned to become one in case of Flathub, I wonder if they still stick to their plans after all of this), they might actually be forced, to query age brackets from the OS for now, but pretty likely to ask for photo ID or selfie in the future when the other age verification laws currently pending (Texas, New York, Brazil, Canada, etc.) will be accepted. Of course, it can also be circumvented by using the repos of a distro which doesn't comply, download app binaries from source code repo Releases page, compiling from source (at least from repos hosted on Codeberg, GitHub/Microsoft might comply), downloading from AppImageHub (which is community-maintained afaik) etc., but it still sucks to lose two of the largest software repos (even if I'm not a fan of Snap Store and Snap in general for "ideological" reasons)) Linux Mint shows off its new lock screen/screensaver: https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2026/03/linux-mint-cinnamon-lock-screen-screensaver Arch Linux Releases March 2026 ISO: https://debugpointnews.com/arch-linux-iso-refresh-march-2026/ AerynOS update boosts atomic update speed and adds WiFi-friendly installs: https://alternativeto.net/news/2026/3/aerynos-update-boosts-atomic-update-speed-and-adds-wifi-friendly-installs/ Say goodbye to Microsoft Windows 11 and hello to Nitrux Linux 6: https://betanews.com/article/say-goodbye-to-microsoft-windows-11-and-hello-to-nitrux-linux-6/ Bazzite gets a big update with KDE Plasma 6.6, Mesa 26.0.1 and more: https://www.gamingonlinux.com/2026/03/bazzite-gets-a-big-update-with-kde-plasma-6-6-mesa-26-0-1-and-more/ (more Linux and FOSS news in comments) #WeeklyNews #News #Linux #LinuxNews #AgeVerification #LinuxMint #FosseryTech

I don’t think I feel comfortable using Linux mint, they have a GitHub bot that auto closes inactive issues. https://github.com/linuxmint/mintupdate/issues/677 #linuxmint

I have not used Win10 desktop in a year. I have it backed upX2. I am using the 2nd SSD. I've consulted 2 #LinuxMint sites. I am still nervous.

I know that Linux Mint has some older, stable packages for its software that aren't bleeding edge. However, is there any way to force it to update LibreOffice to the latest version? I suppose that means adding a repository, but I am unsure which one. #LinuxMint #LibreOffice

I am happy with how this turned out. This is for a local startup business that wants an internal wiki (asked for mediawiki) and the ability to have more php-mariadb (mysql) custom web apps. Why a GUI for a server? Just in case it is needed. I am not going to be doing all the work and I want it as easy as possible to use. Linux Mint Debian Edition is a good fit, as then I can just treat it like a Debian server. That's similar to a lot of the other Linux consulting I do. I have a hard disk drive for versioned backup. Configured Time Shift to back up everything to it. Seems to work well, as I can browse the Timeshift snapshot in the file browser. I also set up MediaWiki for them. Learned a few things there. I had to set a root mariadb password. I customized it with a logo and also made some other adjustments to the MediaWiki LocalSettings.php file. #LinuxMint #Debian #Linux #MediaWiki #wiki

I got Mint reinstalled. Installed Steam after I got Vivaldi browser up and running and synced. And, kids....if you want to install Steam in Mint or Ubuntu, don't use the software manager. Open a command prompt and use the following: sudo apt install steam-installer From the Reddit comment I found on this: "steam-installer is a meta package (collection of packages) that includes a handful of recommended dependencies in an Ubuntu/Mint environment. It includes the steam-installer script that is responsible for downloading the latest steam client on first execution and setup up the environment, steam-libs, steam-libs-i386, debconf, lsof, and zenity (a tool for displaying graphical dialog boxes from shell scripts), and any dependencies required for those packages (like steam-devices for example). It basically does everything needed and recommended for Steam to work except add the i386 architecture, which Mint already has enabled." My first test of Steam, post-install, was to install Skyrim. It ran BEAUTIFULLY in high graphics mode. Next up, Elder Scrolls Online..which has been downloading FOREVER... On another note, this has me wanting to do more stuff in command line. 😁 ⌨️ #Linux #GamingOnLinux #LinuxMint #Steam

TLDR; Ei mitään ihmeellistä, se on tietokone, jossa on selain. Kaikki on mennyt hyvin. Hyvin on mennyt. Itse läppäri on kuitenkin elinkaarensa lopulla. Näppäimistö on kulunut, eikä painallukset aina tuota haluttua kirjainta, noh ikä näkyy. Käytänkin erillistä Logitech K580 näppäimistöä, sillä tuo ongelma on ratkaistu.

My last two #distros have been Arch-based (one bring literally Arch, currently Endeavour), but I'm strongly considering hopping back to #LinuxMint. My far my most solid and stable #Linux experience. I will miss the #AUR though....

Because apparently Windows 11 is at all moments a system update's breath away from total destruction, maybe it's time to install Linux Mint on my laptop and see how that goes 🤔 (It'll probably go well, I would guess.) #Linux #linuxmint

#linuxmint #mirror #undernet #uruguay #repositorios #repo #distro #soberania #linux #gnu #gnulinux

Observation regarding my Linux journey, neither here nor there. When Windows launched their app store, I ignored it. 1) b/c metro apps were maximized for tablets and awkward on PCs. 2) Even then I was skeptic of Microsoft. I bet I used the app store maybe twice in the 12 years I had access to it. Over here on Linux, the software manager is my first stop when looking for stuff. It's easier, sure. But also because there's trust. #Linux #LinuxMint #FOSS #OpenSource #LinuxCurious #Windows #Windows8 #EndOf10 #Microsoft

Hallo #Linux-Nutzende. #fedihelp
