#LibreOffice is available in over 120 languages – but for some, our community needs help, such as with Swahili: https://blog.documentfoundation.org/blog/2026/04/27/help-us-to-improve-libreoffices-swahili-translation/ #foss #openSource #freesoftware

Your software vendor is embedding AI into your OS whether you want it or not. You do not need new hardware to escape it. Linux runs beautifully on existing machines. LibreOffice replaces Microsoft 365. Nextcloud replaces SharePoint. The open source stack is mature, capable, and puts control back in your hands. Digital sovereignty is a business decision, not just a technical one. #DigitalSovereignty #OpenSource #Linux #LibreOffice #FOSS #SustainableTech

How good is #LibreOffice in screenwriting? According to one user on Ask LibreOffice, very good – especially since Markdown support was added: https://blog.documentfoundation.org/blog/2026/04/21/using-libreoffice-for-writing-screenplays/ #foss #openSource #freesoftware

How do you change the default font for LibreOffice spreadsheet app Calc?

This question illustrates how ux and ui design still has a way to go in major open source projects that seek to compete with popular proprietary software.

  1. The method is not where you’d expect it.

  2. It doesn’t change the default for Calc, only for that file.

  3. Normal users shouldn’t have to mess with “templates” and give them “specific names”.

  4. If the above is wrong, that adds weight to the fact that a fairly tech confident person couldn’t find the correct answer.

If I was a billionaire, I’d set up a Foundation to sponsor work on open source UX and UI design.

RE: https://mastodon.social/@nixCraft/116380044468638699 Microsoft Office is one of the largest #welfare programs in the world. it diverts REAL billions of dollars from the public coffers of governments, into the pockets of Bill Gates and his #EpsteinClass cronies. Brasil pays for basic universal health care and UBI for kids because it said NO to Microsoft in 2005 & moved to #linux & #LibreOffice. thanks to Trump, #Microsoft finally lost the 2nd largest economy in the European Union and the 7th largest in the world. merci a la France.

I found https://odftoolkit.org/conformance/ODFValidator.html which looks to be roughly what I'm looking for at a *technical* level. Unfortunately it points at quite a lot that's not strict ODF compliant. When setting the save format to 1.4 instead of 1.4 Extended in LibreOffice, validation comes out clean, as expected; but I don't see any ready indication of what, if anything, I've done which is lost in the process, so that part of my question remains. (The resulting file is *much* smaller.) #OpenDocument #ODF #LibreOffice

I know that Linux Mint has some older, stable packages for its software that aren't bleeding edge. However, is there any way to force it to update LibreOffice to the latest version? I suppose that means adding a repository, but I am unsure which one. #LinuxMint #LibreOffice

Millions of students are getting locked into closed, proprietary software from Big Tech vendors. Here's how #LibreOffice can give them back their digital sovereignty: https://blog.documentfoundation.org/blog/2026/03/06/libreoffice-for-education-regaining-digital-sovereignty/ #foss #openSource #freesoftware

@ChrisMayLA6@zirk.us Glad to see the mention of #LibreOffice, which I've been using ever since it came out. One doesn't need to pay a subscription for a decent office suite. #opensource

So, I'm trying to switch over to #LibreOffice on a Windows 10 operating system, using the Portable version of LO, not the installed version, and my em dashes are not showing up as em dashes. I type, dash dash dash, altogether, and it still does not transform into a proper em dash. I tried to fix this with AutoCorrect, but even after I put the, * after it, it sill does not transform. Any ideas on how to make the AutoCorrect work? I'm also stunned at how much it crashes, Like, no really! Especially when I am editing AutoCorrect entries. It freezes and I am forced to close the program and then recover documents. I've also had it crash several times when editing a document---a lengthy blog post. Honestly? I hate Microsoft, but it's inhibiting behavior such as this that make me understand why people stick with Microsoft Word. I'm not giving up on LO by any means. I will just never badger someone using MS Word again, especially since I've seen how buggy LO is. On the bright side, LO is incredibly fast if I am just typing a messy first draft.

Also quasi historisiert. Also weder PHP noch SQL.

#LibreOffice 26.8 alpha seems much happier since I installed a Java runtime environment for it to play with. :)

We hope you're enjoying the new features in #LibreOffice 26.2! Here's a look behind-the-scenes at what the developer and QA community did in January: https://qa.blog.documentfoundation.org/2026/02/11/qa-dev-report-january-2026/ #foss #openSource #freesoftware
