#amwriting So yesterday my headmeat horked up the following (in "Space Princess Star", ongoing WIP: see alt text for contents). See, this is why I don't need a therapist! (Exit stage left, to the tune of "They're Coming To Take Me Away, Ha Ha!")

That's 2000 more words on the WIP so we're at about 7K, which is nice. I do work better with a deadline, and very loud jazz in my ears. #amWriting #fantasyRomance #writing

The protagonist is the most important person to the reader. The villain is the most important person to the author. Your antagonist has to be strong or your hero never can be. #LianaEdits #AmEditing #Writing #AmWriting

A job rejection and a query rejection on the same day yesterday. At least it was free ice cream day at Ben and Jerry's. All I want to do is write but... yeah hard to when it feels like its all for nothing. #writing #writinglife #amwriting #writingcommunity

I've never tried to hide that I want to build up my side business of translating old German folk tales into a significant side income. "Quit your day job" levels are unrealistic, since my day job pays decently and I quite like the benefits, but maybe it will be possible to work reduced hours one day. Currently, I earn about €200 per months. I do have some expenses - commissing cover illustrations, hiring a copywriter, and pay for domain and website maintenance (which has gotten more expensive as of late - thanks, #LLM scrapers!). https://sunkencastles.com/the-books/ Right now, my books are primarily a marketing tool for my Patreon campaign, although I do get some money from them. My sales per year are: 2020: 71 (Release of "Sunken Castles, Evil Poodles") 2021: 69 2022: 133 (Release of "Lurkers at the Threshold") 2023: 78 2024: 50 2025: 52 Even though I haven't released a new book since 2022, book sales haven't declined nearly as much as is usual for books. I assume that this means that knowledge of their existence is spread by word of mouth - thanks to everyone who has recommended them to others! Still, I really need to get "Old Goatfoot" out (the next book) - and I have enough material to start on the manuscripts for "Magic in Theory and Malpractice" and "Unnatural Taxonomies" as well (with "Spirits in Motion" not far behind). While publishing my weekly translations on Patreon remains the first priority, this is the second highest one. https://graphtreon.com/creator/sunkencastles Speaking of my Patreon campaign, it has generally plateaued since its high point in 2023. I suspect the reason for this, too, is the lack of new books, which are the visible representation of all the work I do. If my people see more of my books on the shelves, they will be more intrigued in the early release material I publish there. And once my Patreon campaign grows big enough, I hope to use it to pay for custom illustrations for the tales - but alas, I am not there yet. But of course, I do further marketing beyond selling books. After I abandoned/fled Twitter, I focused on #Mastodon as my primary marketing tool. I tried a #Facebook page for two years or so, but that was a waste of time - I never attracted even a hundred followers, and I refused to pay Meta for advertising. Better to stick to the #Fediverse, where there is no algorithm that hates you. Still, even my Mastodon-based approach has seen some refinement. I used to share my tales as screenshots, but that was not ideal from an accessibility point of view. Thus, I spent seven months on building up a wiki repository, and now share invididual tales as links: https://wiki.sunkencastles.com/wiki/Main_Page This required a lot of effort which distracted me from working on the book manuscripts. But now it is functionally complete, and I think the end result is worth it. So here you have it: My focus for the rest of the year is to get my next book published, and hopefully this will bring me a further increase in revenue. Does anyone have any further questions about my work as an independent author/translator, and my future goals? #amwriting

RE: https://mindly.social/@floofpaldi/116382690989479871 Writing momentum gets traded in the form of word-count comparisons, revision plans, and a light, personal look at the confusion of chapter/word-density. #IAS #IndieAuthor #IndieAuthors #AmWriting

Nice chunky update on the #zine page I am creating, a combination of resources and my own zines. I am open to suggestions if you have them: https://hpkomics.com/zines/ #amWriting #zines #openCulture

I always find myself hating the usage of "that that" in a sentence. There are times when you have no choice, which I wound up doing. It'll change in the next draft just because I find it such a mouthful to say outloud. #writing #amwriting #writinglife #writingcommunity

So, I think I am gonna put Fang & Bone on pause to knock out the last five chapters of the first part of The Dead Life. I have the momentum and see the trajectory. It feels like I am at the stage where I need to lock in. #amWriting

The great thing about writing a Stainless Steel Rat homage is you get to do things like this (in which our protagonists, having returned from a *very* long trip, have found and are preparing to rob a museum exhibit dedicated to ... themselves): #amwriting

For anyone here who may be a #Patreon of my #Writing I've now published an early-access post: Episode 30: Of Fire and Venom. It will /only/ make sense if you read Episode 29 beforehand, so that's linked in the post too. Enjoy! P.S. I need to bring Ko-Fi up-to-date with Patreon in terms of public and subscriber posts, but I'll get there, hopefully this week. #WritingCommunity #AmWriting #Writers #FantasyFiction #Fantasy #Fiction https://www.patreon.com/posts/episode-30-of-154043966

My crazy little play got rejected from a contest. I'd been wondering when the rejection would come as it been a while since I'd submitted it. Really wanted it to happen though, even though there thousands of probably much better plays that were submitted to the contest. #writinglife #amwriting #writing

The plot is shapeshifting faster than a doppelganger at the moment, and I am having it all on to keep up with it. And I'm super tired (hence why I slept in this morning). I see some major editing of the last few chapters in my future... #AmWriting

I've nearly finished chapter 11. The sequel is probably going to be longer, and definitely more complex, than the original; there's just so much more going on. Oh, and all of a sudden we've got an intelligent sword with a burning desire to slay undead (it finished off a ghast last night, so right now it's happy). I hadn't predicted that myself, but... OK, fine. 😃 #AmWriting

Hey all, A new chapter of The Cleansing is up for Patreon early access. It's in two parts, mostly to break up a fairly long, quiet episode. I hope to bring more back chapters to my public versions next week. #writingcommunity #amwriting #SerialFiction #fantasyfiction https://www.patreon.com/posts/out-of-blue-part-151905356
