So I’m testing out #Ubuntu2604LTS on an intel #thinkpad T14 gen 4 and the standby battery life is atrocious. Went to bed around 10pm, closed the lid and when I woke up in the morning it was completely dead. Am I missing something. I thought newer kernels handled sleep and power settings better? This is borderline unusable. #linux #battery #standby #ubuntu

@ann3nova@corteximplant.com @frameworkcomputer@fosstodon.org don't you know the #UltraNav? If #Lenovo didn't became overly greedy and canceled the #wired-version of their #CompactKeyboard for a evidently worse (Bluetooth + 2,4GHz proprietary) Version that costs more than double than the previous #Bluetooth version I'd choose that. They not only do the #ThinkPad Keyboards but also own the IP behind the UltraNav…

Getting a ThinkPad X13 (AMD Ryzen) ready for someone to look at. He is wanting a replacement for his Chromebook, but heard that I sold ThinkPad laptops. I installed KDE desktop, then applied a ChromeOS theme. I think it looks okay, but really isn't much different than the default Breeze themes, though it does have an annoying (to me) Google logo that flashes on the screen between login and displaying the KDE desktop. I installed both the Brave and Chromium browsers. I may try other KDE themes, but all in all I think this would be a powerful replacement for a Chromebook. #Devuan #Linux #ChromeOS #ThinkPad

My ThinkPad T14s shipped with an Intel XMM7560 LTE modem locked behind a Lenovo unlock blob. I replaced it with a ~100-line bash script that does the exact same handshake - and explains, in plain shell, what the "unlock" really is: a SHA-256 over a 4-byte constant. No magic, no blob. Full credit to Floris Stoica-Marcu for the script. https://blog.hofstede.it/replacing-lenovos-wwan-unlock-blob-with-a-100-line-bash-script/ #Linux #Fedora #ThinkPad #ModemManager #FOSS

@leoschuldiner23@beige.party I'm with ya! I am a strong advocate for the used #thinkpad market - incredible #Linux (and #bsd?) machines for any budget $50 or bigger. I'm running a radio station server (backup) on a 2006 thinkpad. It just always works. Insane. Do people know about this?

Agreed. I had a ThinkPad T15 Gen 1 that I was going to get ready for a customer. It was behaving a bit weird. Odd crash. So I tested the memory. The soldered memory was going bad. So far total loss on that hardware. I may end up parting it out or waiting to buy a replacement motherboard... but that replacement motherboard will also have soldered memory. I have largely switched to the ThinkPad L series, as they have two memory slots and no memory soldered to the board. #ThinkPad #memory

Part of me wishes I had got 32 GB of RAM in my #ThinkPad instead of just 16 GB, primarily because of the huge memory split with the iGPU, but unfortunately the upgrade was ~$200 (USD) more and I was trying to keep it within budget. It appears that RAM prices have not gotten any better, unsurprisingly (actually, it looks like they've gotten worse).

@neet Absolutely proprietary. The proprietary Canoeboot does support the X220 - deassembly instructions are here; https://canoeboot.org/docs/install/x230_external.html (X220 is very similar to X230) https://canoeboot.org/docs/install/#thinkpad-x220x220tt420t420st520 https://canoeboot.org/docs/install/spi.html#raspberry-pi-pico

I have some parts for a ThinkPad X220T ("tablet" version) with i7 CPU. I may have a couple of those laptops, but none in perfect working condition. I believe the motherboard and most parts in the X220T are different than the regular X220. I will double check to see if I have an X220, but I do not think I do. #thinkPad

THE NEW #THINKPAD IS IN. Except I'm 30 miles away from it, and I'm busy with classes all day :(. I will open it tomorrow, though :)

Mag mir hier wer was entsprechend anbieten? #FediFlohmarkt #UnplugBigTech #UnplugTrump #Laptop

Ok. I finally bought a new laptop (a #ThinkPad) and it should be coming hopefully soon. It's being held up right now, but I hope that gets resolved quickly because it would be nice to have some good computational power again. I did spend a good fortune on it, and I hope this lasts at least as long as my previous one (which I would've been using had it not died on me :( I will also admit, this is part of the reason why I haven't been as active with @tenacity@floss.social so much, but it's not the main reason. As I've hinted before, the main reason was due to personal issues, which are unfortunately still ongoing as of now. However, I am cautiously optimistic as of today, but since things are *very* volatile, that can change quickly. One of these days I think I'll finally tell everyone what's going on, but I may still need some time before I'm ready to do that. Maybe I'll wait for some good developments first, but there's absolutely no guarantee if I'll even do it in the first place. Anyways, thanks to all those who support me too! Every little bit of support in any form really helps, and it's thanks to you all that I keep going with the stuff I do! 😄

Seeing how "simple" those lapdock* PCB are (in the video below with a DP to HDMI Lontium LT8711UX chip and a RTD2556 display controller), I wonder if there's ongoing FOSS project to replicate them and allow people to put them into old laptops to reuse them (a lapdock into an old #Thinkpad shell or in a @mntmn@mastodon.social #MNT Reform Next shell would be a killer project) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E9Bp3d3h-1Q *a laptop shell to which a compatible (alt-mode capable) phone connects and which then ouput its screen to the lapdock display and can be controller buy the lapdock keyboard + mouse (and sometime lapdock's touchscreen)
