Reminder: You don't get to claim the title of "ally". It's something bestowed (or not) by the people you are *trying to* ally with.
Ally is a verb, not a noun. It's something you *do*, and have to keep repeating, for it to count. And only the people you're trying to help get to decide whether you succeeded.

It has been a little bit since I posted this PSA, but it needs to be said again.
1) Some ppl's neurodivergence make it impossible for them to alt text.
2) Gatekeeping fedi by refusing to include them is ableist.
"But Dio how do we know they're ND?"
You don't So treat everyone kindly. Assume good intent. And don't exclude anyone. If alt comes easy for u, offer yo help instead of being ableist.
"But there are tools that they can use..."
It is not your place to try to force them to fit in.

I spent years thinking shared lunches were a struggle for everyone.
I assumed we all just suffered through them out of politeness.
Realizing that most people actually enjoy this (that it even recharges them) hit me like a total system crash. For me, social interaction is a crisis.
I feel like a tiny person locked inside my head, desperately trying to pilot a "meat robot" that is in emergency mode, scanning for the nearest exit to save my sanity.
It is a strange feeling when you realize your "normal" was actually a high-alert survival protocol. My battery just leaks in public. I mean, even talking with a colleague 1-on-1.
And it's not a "social battery", it's the main and only one I have.

I generally am quite a clumsy person, but I just realized my clumsiness gets way worse when I am overwhelmed. Got to spend four days on the Easter holidays with my nephew - and till the end of the week it’s like clumsiness x10. Everything falls from my hands, I almost drowned my phone two times, accidentally broke several plates, a glads and a ceramic pot lid, flipped several dishes and bumped many things. I’m like a walking disaster by now, so I just am sitting on my sofa trying to not touch anything fragile or expensive till I get enough of my alone time.
Did you also noticed being much more clumsy when you are overwhelmed and not having enough alone time?

Vandaag kwam ik de volgende test tegen.
"Psycholoog Simon Baron-Cohen en zijn collega’s van Cambridge Autism Research Centre hebben de Autisme-Spectrum Quotient, of AQ-test gemaakt als een instrument om de mate van autistische eigenschappen bij volwassenen te testen."

Karp’s own experience with dyslexia fuels his passion, but his framing implies that neurodivergent people possess a unique, perhaps superior, advantage in the coming AI‑driven economy.

It is one thing to acknowledge the challenges dyslexia posed him; it is another to use personal experience to claim a privileged status in a future reshaped by AI. Well I'm gutted.
Just discovered a load of NHS trusts just quirlty during neurodiversity week, halted Right to Choose for adhd and autism tests.
No announcements. No consultation. Just stopped.
For children waiting diagnosis for SEND assistance in education this is likely to cause irreparable harm... for adults with no advocates waiting diagnosis, struggling waiting for treatment they dont know might help.

People pleasing isn't kindness - it's the high price of renting your spot in society.
I've been called shy and boring, but those aren't traits, they are security protocols.
I am different for everyone because it’s safer.
