There are two main ways to invite someone to join Mastodon:

  • Send them a link to a human-curated server list, then exchange account addresses so you can follow each other

  • Use Mastodon’s built-in invitation system to invite them to join your server and follow you automatically

Ugh hey all - I'm guessing that this is a not-infrequent #feditips entry, but please report then block any account that is messaging you claiming to be "Mastodon Support" or telling you to "validate your account" or "contact us to activate your offer". Looks like jerks discovered a popular few hashtags this week and are then messaging people who were playing along. See something, suspend something! Thanks for reporting them.

If you follow someone whose own posts are good but they boost too much, you can hide just their boosts if you want:

  1. Go to their profile page
  2. Click the ⋯ icon
  3. Click “Hide boosts”

(If you change your mind, go back to their profile and click “Show boosts” instead.)

Mastodon includes an optional feature which lets you automatically delete your posts after a certain amount of time. There's a guide to using this feature including lots of questions answered at: ➡️ https://fedi.tips/deleting-posts-automatically-in-mastodon-after-a-certain-time-period It's off by default, it only deletes stuff if you switch it on. You can also set it to keep certain posts, more info in the guide. I've tried to answer questions about this feature in the guide, but let me know if I've missed anything. #FediTips #Mastodon

Sirve poner etiquetas del tema que hables en el toot, por ejemplo #feditips así cualquiera que siga esa etiqueta ve el toot, aunque no lo haya visto en la línea temporal y tmb sirve emoezar a seguir gente para que te siga y así tener más interacción. De última, luego si de alguien no te interesalo que postea podés dejar de seguirla. Los domingos de tarde puede que la instancia de mastodon.uy esté medio quieta pero caoaz otras se mueven más, yo anduve tooteando bastante con gente de otras instancias hoy. Vi que oosteaste algo itneresante, lo puse en marcadores para leerlo y no lo he leído, por eso no puse fav

Most hashtags are pretty obvious, you just put # in front of a topic. For example if a post is about coffee it might have the tag #Coffee However, many popular hashtags have difficult-to-guess names, so I've started a list to help people discover them: ➡️ https://fedi.tips/fun-and-useful-hashtags-to-follow-on-mastodon-and-the-wider-fediverse Copy-paste a hashtag into the search box in Mastodon if you want to browse or follow it. You may have heard that the maintainer of med-mastodon.com, a large, prominent Mastodon server, recently decided to shut down the server without warning, leaving his users with no access to their data. This could happen to you at any time. If you care about this, you should be backing up your data regularly.
