The upshot is that, starting with my kitchen 'nerve-centre' and then spanning into other rooms over time, these various crises have resulted in what I call #strata. The lowest strata is #DIY mask experiments and making. Above that is the first attempts at #HeatMitigation. Then there is #AirQuality mitigation, and then some blending of these in upper strata depending on access to materials or new approaches I can try without risking violating my #lease. Except, of course, it turns out there is always a catch. 11/x #messy #stacks #materials #clutter

Nowości z krainy gruzu. Po pierwsze, Česky Satan ożył. Dotarła czeska karta O2, i odpalił się bez... no dobra, nie bez problemów. Okazało się, że współczesne baterie nie są do końca kompatybilne ze starymi stykami. Musiałem podłożyć kawałek folii aluminiowej, ale zanim zrozumiałem, co jest problemem, przeżyłem chwile grozy. Na zdjęciach widać całość dłubaniny - moje kulawe lutowanie, dosztukowany styk, podkładkę z gąbki i samą folię (od lewej strony na dole). Po drugie, gruzolandia ma nowego lokatora. Nokia X2-00. Ale kupiona raczej z rozsądku niż miłości, bo pomyślałem, że poużywam sobie jakiegoś klawiszowca do rozmów i SMS-ów na co dzień, a smartfona zostawię do internetu. X2 to ostatnie podrygi systemu S40, potem już było nowocześnie i nudno. Ta jest jeszcze całkiem estetyczna, ma blufiuta, czyta karty SD (może robić za odtwarzacz empetrójek) i aparat o pół klasy lepszy od ziemniaka, co jak na Nokię jest osiągnięciem. Będę dawał znać, jak się sprawuje - w ogóle zacząłem poważniej myśleć o przeniesieniu działu elektrogruzu na jakiś samodzielny blog (dzięki za sugestie). Chyba na razie osiągnąłem masę krytyczną - mam niemal wszystko, co chciałem. DIY or just smarter than I fedi, I need help on two things. (UK based if makes a difference) 1) Need to replace the old night latch, its a cheap feeling case thing, I swapped the lock easily but hate the case. Unfortunately living in a block of flats I can't drill any more holes in my door. Am I correct in thinking the mounting plates for night latches are more or less standardised? If I buy a new latch I can use the old door mount/replace it without needing new holes 2) my flat has what I'm told are "lamp sockets". To me they look like BS 546 from a theatre but smaller (so sub 15A). As far as I am aware these are really old standards, but my building is about 2006, my question is: are these OK to use? Can my IKEA G plug lamps and such use this if I can find some adapter or some easy way to tell? Or am I stuck with annoying two switch light switches that only have one usable switch and useless sockets? #DIY #askfedi #fedihelp #electricity #lockstodon

#ProjektMikroSzkop się komplikuje. W związku z nowym obiektywem wersja 1.0 poszła na /dev/drzewo, zacząłem klikać nową lepszą 2.0, mam jeden (kluczowy) element, mogę go zamocować na statywie foto do testów. Niestety nie udało się zwalczyć pokusy przed gUpimi żartami, żywe dzieci nie ucierpiały. ;-) A kłopot jest tej natury, że w przeciwieństwie do aparatu foto, w kamerze matryca jest tuż za obiektywem i każdy milimetr robi gigantyczną różnicę. Nie ma pewności czy uda się obiektywu użyć. :( #DIY

So I don't know why both cases cracked themselves open, but they both did. Both cases show other heat stress, on the tops. This wasn't environmental, as these were indoors in climate controlled spaces. But the actual hardware is getting pretty warm, even with cases off, and the case ventilation is poor. Node 2 has been running most of the day. I guess I'll let it keep going while Node 3 runs for a day and just see what happens. But I do think these cases need a lot more venting. I have drills and no one will stop me. I wonder if OpenWRT will run on these things. That might be nice. #diy #repair #wifi #asus

Whelp I've got these old ASUS nodes running; so far the only thing I've found for sure is that node 2 had a broken antenna cable (now repaired) and now they're all working. I'm wondering whether on site the broken antenna - which critically may be is the backhaul antenna - had been installed improperly but had not fully broken _until_ the node 2 case somehow opened itself right next to that antenna cable. Maybe that finished the cable off, tearing it. I don't know. (Meanwhile, in node 3, which also opened its own case somehow, the same cable was bent up a bit and kind of wedged into the area where the case separated. that cable is, however, intact.) #diy #repair #wifi #asus

Why would these thermal pads be... wet this does not seem right. is this a breakdown mode of some thermal pads? Or is it something else entirely, or even by design? (This device powers up and behaves normally until it doesn't, at which point it flashes its one LED continuously. It feels like overheating, but since it just disappears offline, it's hard to tell.) #tech #repair #diy #asus #wifi #router

Putting up a worklight of sorts in our staircase, and deciphering their helpful symbols. 1) B's go to the right 2) Squeeze the house 3) Don't do this in the dark 4) Keep an umbrella handy to stab someone if needed 5) Don't open the umbrella in the house (my grandmother always said that was bad luck) 6) Install the toilet on the ceiling, not the wall 7) I have no idea 8) Ok, I actually know what this one is 9) Don't drill into a set of matches 10) Always watch out for tsunamis #DIY
