Fråga #wifi jag har fått frågan av en kompis som behöver sätta samman två byggnader via wifi. Jag gissar att det kan vara ca 15 meter mellan byggnaderna. Det handlar om byggnader i plåt (företag) och det går att montera en ev repeater utanpå byggnaden med Internet. De behöver det för verksamheten så det behöver vara så stabilt som möjligt. Jag tror inte att pris är det mest avgörande givet att ngt dyrare också är bättre. Det finns wifi i huvudbyggnaden så ev repeater får inte störa ut detta nät. Finns det någon som har bra förslag? Trådat är uteslutet

Anyone here has experience doing a "Wi-Fi box" in NetBSD? I wonder how big is the overhead. Both in user effort and computer resources. When I was younger I used to run a *very slow* virtual machine with Windows XP while daily-driving Linux. So I could interact with government webpages, banks, University software, etc. Anything that I couldn't do in Linux was done in this winXP VM. Now I'm getting close to do something similar. A light VM with linux to do anything that I can't in NetBSD. I still don't truly daily-drive NetBSD: I'm writing this tooth from my Linux Mint laptop, for example. To use the Wi-Fi from this machine, I still need a Linux driver, but I'm starting to pet the idea of a small VM + PCI passthrough to setup Wi-Fi, and use that VM as a router. Something tells me that battery life will be even shorter than it is now. But it would be better to hear that from people who have actually done something like that. #wifi #wifibox #NetBSD #runbsd

So I don't know why both cases cracked themselves open, but they both did. Both cases show other heat stress, on the tops. This wasn't environmental, as these were indoors in climate controlled spaces. But the actual hardware is getting pretty warm, even with cases off, and the case ventilation is poor. Node 2 has been running most of the day. I guess I'll let it keep going while Node 3 runs for a day and just see what happens. But I do think these cases need a lot more venting. I have drills and no one will stop me. I wonder if OpenWRT will run on these things. That might be nice. #diy #repair #wifi #asus

Whelp I've got these old ASUS nodes running; so far the only thing I've found for sure is that node 2 had a broken antenna cable (now repaired) and now they're all working. I'm wondering whether on site the broken antenna - which critically may be is the backhaul antenna - had been installed improperly but had not fully broken _until_ the node 2 case somehow opened itself right next to that antenna cable. Maybe that finished the cable off, tearing it. I don't know. (Meanwhile, in node 3, which also opened its own case somehow, the same cable was bent up a bit and kind of wedged into the area where the case separated. that cable is, however, intact.) #diy #repair #wifi #asus

Why would these thermal pads be... wet this does not seem right. is this a breakdown mode of some thermal pads? Or is it something else entirely, or even by design? (This device powers up and behaves normally until it doesn't, at which point it flashes its one LED continuously. It feels like overheating, but since it just disappears offline, it's hard to tell.) #tech #repair #diy #asus #wifi #router

🛜 "W skrócie: 25 lutego 2026 r. naukowcy z Uniwersytetu Kalifornijskiego w Riverside i Uniwersytetu Katolickiego w Leuven zaprezentowali narzędzie AirSnitch podczas sympozjum NDSS w San Diego. Jest to zestaw narzędzi do ataków, które omijają „izolację klienta” — funkcję Wi-Fi, która ma zapobiegać wzajemnym atakom użytkowników w tej samej sieci. Przetestowano 11 routerów firm Cisco, Netgear, D-Link, ASUS, TP-Link, Ubiquiti, Tenda i LANCOM, a także oprogramowanie open source DD-WRT i OpenWrt. Każdy z nich był podatny na co najmniej jeden atak. WPA2, WPA3, sieci korporacyjne z indywidualnymi loginami — nic z tego nie miało znaczenia. Jeśli osoba atakująca połączy się z tą samą siecią Wi-Fi co Ty, może przechwycić Twój ruch, odczytać Twoje dane i przeprowadzić ataki typu „man-in-the-middle”. Rozwiązaniem nie jest poprawka oprogramowania sprzętowego. Jest to problem architektoniczny, który wymaga zmian w samym standardzie IEEE 802.11." AirSnitch: “nowy atak na WiFi omijający szyfrowanie”. Tego typu nagłówki mogą być trochę mylące (a pojawiają się już w zachodnich mediach). Zobaczmy wiec co właśnie ujawnili badaczo-hackerzy ;) Atak umożliwia podsłuch ruchu w sieci WiFi (atak Man in The Middle). Brzmi groźnie?
