Sharing a new Anjou pear tree this #ArborDay weekend. I'm trying for a backyard #orchard following Grow A Little #FruitTree by Ann Ralph. Unfortunately, the nursery already psyched me out of the brutal first cut. I regret not doing it just like the book said I would. It's already so much larger in just 10 days. Any hashtags specific to this part of #gardening?

@KathyLK@universeodon.com We lucked out. We have 12 2x6 cedar raised beds that a local kid makes really cheap. This entire side yard is going to be a raised bed garden, accessible to me in the power chair. He inherited is grandfathers little portable saw mill. The 8 foot boards are only $1.5 or so a piece that we used for edging and the beds are only $20 each delivered. #PaulsYard #Gardening . I think we got our first batch for like $15 a piece.

The blooms are almost finished on the azaleas (left, two quite mature Azalea x 'Girard's Rose'; right, a young Azalea x 'Girard's Fuchsia') in the front garden, which sandwich a Rhododendron x azalea that bloomed a few weeks earlier. I had not intended to get a different colour when I purchased the young azalea a few years ago to place to the right of the larger rhododendron azalea, but as the plants on the left were already in the front garden when I moved here 20 years ago, I guessed that the colour was 'fuchsia' when in fact it is 'rose'. My hope is that, if I am able to live here another 20 years, that the 'fuchsia' azalea fills out just as the 'rose' azaleas have, and the two-tone colour scheme will become a neighbourhood favourite. #garden #gardening #azalea #AzaleaGirardsFuschia #AzaleaGirardsRose

Signs of spring! It's time to get the garden going again: hoe up the weeds, gather the seeds from the collards and kale that bolted, and spread some compost. Soon, I'll be transplanting these little seedlings out into the garden. #gardening #GrowYourFood

We’ve been typically light on rain so I turned the sprinkler on and came back out to the local #magpie family enjoying themselves 😍 I do keep a container there for water so they are frequent visitors #gardening #australia

At some point in the middle of this weird winter, I threw all the imperfect winter green and winter veg seeds into the greenhouse. There were even some moldy onions in the mix. Complete abandon, no water except what condenses and gets into the soil from the outside. Now, there is a chaotic see of green. We'll have to harvest some of these to make room for the tomatoes soon, but most of this gets to stay. #gardening

Saturday April 18th. Garden journal notes. The perennial nettle plant is wonderful. This harvest aspired to be steamed with sambal kelapa spiced carrots. This is an early green for southern Minnesota. Also the plant spreads aggressively by shallow runners and deep runners. Also the common name is stinging nettles. #nettles, #growyourown, #nodig, #compost, #minnesota, #Zone4b, #gardening

Got grapes? We live in growing zone 8b in the greater Seattle area and are planning to try growing red seedless table grapes. Step 1 is to pick a variety. Any suggestions or other advice? We have gardened extensively for years so in general growing stuff is in our wheelhouse. The site where we would plant is well-drained and gets morning and mid-day sun with afternoon shade. The goal is fresh eating and drying to raisins. #Gardens #Gardening #GrowYourOwn #PNW #Seattle

Good to see hostas starting to do their thing. This one was propagated from one in the front garden last year. At the time chopping a plant with a spade felt too violent, but Monty said be brave. It worked #gardening

Requesting #gardening advice. I want to try potatoes this year but it has been so rainy. I'm reluctant to put the seed pieces in. Am I being too cautious? More storms are coming in this week. #NorthernIllinois

A weekend of almosts in #NorthernIllinois. Hit 80F and the bees are out but the plants aren't ready for them yet. Pictured: marsh marigold (Caltha palustris) and tulips. #gardening #NativePlants
