It's fixin' day. I'm gluing the tyre back onto my bandsaw's wheels. It's all perished and cracked, hopefully this gorilla glue holds it on. #repair #diy

#Battery and #repair nerds, need help finding the correct(ish) battery for a device. It's a mini Digital TV that was made like 10+ years ago and still works fine, but the battery is shot and doesn't hold a charge. I sort of know how to read one of these batteries, but am having a hard time finding an exact match. It doesn't need to be EXACTLY the same, in fact I'd be fine with a much larger capacity battery, as long as it fits inside the compartment on the tv - and is the correct polarity, because a lot of the ones I am seeing have the red and black wires in the opposite configuration and I don't have the manual dexterity to re-wire one of these anymore. Amazon, AliExpress, wherever, can anybody match something up to this? #Electronics

Not everything with a cracked plastic case is destined for the bin. This Flymo came into TOG with a badly damaged outer shell. Our member Ambrose repaired it with a plastic welder, melting the plastic and embedding metal staples across the break from the inside to reinforce it. That is one of the joys of a hackerspace: shared tools, shared knowledge, and people willing to give things a second life. Blog post here: https://www.tog.ie/2026/04/bringing-a-cracked-flymo-back-to-life/ #Repair #CircularEconomy #RightToRepair #Hackerspace

I was so excited today when I found a like-new, unused (or barely used) GAF 3100S Super 8mm projector at a thrift store for $12.99. I've had a bunch of home-recorded Super 8 reels lying around and haven't been able to watch or digitize them properly. Well, it went very well for about five seconds. It started taking in film... but there was suddenly the smell of burning, a small pop, followed by a bit of worse-smelling smoke. I've done minor electronics repair in the past... but I'm afraid something like this is likely beyond my current abilities/tools. Anyone know of someone who repairs 1970s Super 8 projectors? (Brief research seems to indicate that this is a nice projector to have, so maybe worth getting repaired?) #8mm #8mmfilm #vintageelectronics #electronics #electronicsrepair #repair #super8

So mine’s apparently an Issue 4 from 1982. Although there’s a sticker in it that reads 1 Nov 83 (maybe when it was sold/serviced?) The board’s out and yes, I was a bit of a barbarian and, since I’m not going to be using the composite out, cut the wires to it instead of desoldering them. If I ever need it, I can just connect the wires again. Now the bit that scares me… #BBCMicro #repair

Note, if you will, the beauty of this design: There are seven places where the power supply attaches to the main board but there’s no way you can get it wrong as the lengths of the wire won’t let you. (You still have to know black is 0v.) #BBCMicro #repair

Pinball 2000 was Williams' last platform and in a lot of ways it was the culmination of every possible quality of life improvement they had come up with the previous generations. The idea was that you could have an extra playfield, that you just quickly swapped out at the location so you could clean and repair the old one at the privacy of your shop without a nosy drunk giving you their repair advice. Thanks to this, you can literally disconnect and remove the playfield in seconds, a thing that in many other platform takes forever and needs help to lift the playfield. It does not have the prop rod like virtually every previous machine ever had, but the playfield rails are at the very back, so when you lean it against the backbox, everything is nicely at your reach. The 1/3 pulled out position is also there for those of us who prefer to do flipper rebuilds that way. One fun detail is that you can leave the balls in the game, there's a flap that closes the ball trough when the playfield is in upright position. #pinball #arcade #repair #retrotech #mildlyinteresting

So I don't know why both cases cracked themselves open, but they both did. Both cases show other heat stress, on the tops. This wasn't environmental, as these were indoors in climate controlled spaces. But the actual hardware is getting pretty warm, even with cases off, and the case ventilation is poor. Node 2 has been running most of the day. I guess I'll let it keep going while Node 3 runs for a day and just see what happens. But I do think these cases need a lot more venting. I have drills and no one will stop me. I wonder if OpenWRT will run on these things. That might be nice. #diy #repair #wifi #asus

Whelp I've got these old ASUS nodes running; so far the only thing I've found for sure is that node 2 had a broken antenna cable (now repaired) and now they're all working. I'm wondering whether on site the broken antenna - which critically may be is the backhaul antenna - had been installed improperly but had not fully broken _until_ the node 2 case somehow opened itself right next to that antenna cable. Maybe that finished the cable off, tearing it. I don't know. (Meanwhile, in node 3, which also opened its own case somehow, the same cable was bent up a bit and kind of wedged into the area where the case separated. that cable is, however, intact.) #diy #repair #wifi #asus

Why would these thermal pads be... wet this does not seem right. is this a breakdown mode of some thermal pads? Or is it something else entirely, or even by design? (This device powers up and behaves normally until it doesn't, at which point it flashes its one LED continuously. It feels like overheating, but since it just disappears offline, it's hard to tell.) #tech #repair #diy #asus #wifi #router

The crappy flipper buttons, don't get me started on those! Since the beginning of the time everyone used the kind where the moving part of the button was secured by an e-clip. Then something happened (early enshittification?) and a model where the center was just pushed in place surfaced. It had a small collar to prevent the center from just jumping out of the button frame, but that wore off from normal wear and tear, leaving surprised players with the flipper button center in their hands mid-game! The Mandalorian seen here is just from the era where the good old model had made its comeback and in this case the button wasn't a total loss, the e-clip had just come off for some reason. Oh and the black ones are relatively rare, I think the Mando is the only one of mine to have those. #pinball #repair #pinrepair

I use a System76 Thelio Mira Custom as my studio machine, running Arch. During a session today my screen became distorted, and the sound started buzzing. I unplugged my interface and shut down the PC. It would not power back up afterward, and I did a power drain and cmos reset. It's now booting, but the keyboard isnt being detected (lights work, no input) - this is in every USB port, and multiple keyboards tried. Am I going to have to send this in for repairs? :l #system76 #usb #repair

@ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org Just have to share one little push-back against #entropy ... I recently laundered a beloved old fleece jacket and the zipper-pull mysteriously broke. I was able to "sew" it back on using a series of figure-eight stitches locked in with a few knots. So satisfying! 🙂 #Repair #Sewing

getting it figured out the extruder didn’t want to do a high resolution without me signing up so i settled for low rez but it seems pretty functional anyway ^_^ #3dPrinting #repair #diy

Rrepair, HPC Laser. The problem with this laser was that it was engraving everything twice next to each other, but the cut was fine. We found that there was a defect with the control box. Once corrected the laser engraved perfectly #Repair #Service #HPCLaser #Laser #ThinkLaser

I want to find whoever engineered this wiring harness, confirm with them that their manager ordered them to engineer it down to survive exactly to end of warranty and no longer, get that manager's name, dopeslap the engineer for going along with it, and then beat the absolute living shit out of the manager. (This is the... fourth repair of this harness. So far. Including _after_ replacing the accessible section _in its entirety_. Nope, that's not good enough. These fucking wires may as well be angel hair, and it's sealed inside, and eventually I guess I'll just have to find a way to store everything somewhere and take apart the entire fucking unit to replace the entire run because fuck me is why.) #appliances #refrigerator #repair #diy
