Google staff urge chief executive to block US military AI use

Over 560 employees sign open letter to Sundar Pichai following the Pentagon’s clash with Anthropic

Well, we’ll see how this goes. Didn’t pan out too well for the last set of employees.

Watching ministers talk about NHS data strategy is like watching someone confidently rewire a house with no understanding of electricity. The language sounds polished, the reassurances are endless, but the substance just isn’t there. Choosing a company like Palantir isn’t a neutral technical decision. It’s a long-term structural commitment with real implications for control, access, and public trust. Yet it’s presented as a simple procurement exercise. And when political careers move on, as they always do, there’s rarely any reckoning for decisions that reshape public infrastructure for decades. That asymmetry should concern everyone. #technology #surveillance #nhs #politics #ice #ethics #society #data Palantir: NHS pilot’s “success” is questioned as second figure at major trust is linked to the tech giant | The BMJ https://www.bmj.com/content/393/bmj.s680

What strikes me is how cognitive warfare is becoming something more than “just propaganda”. This feels different. More personal. More precise. Not only about misleading us, but about wearing us down — cultivating ignorance, fatigue, and passivity in the face of rights, injustice, and responsibility. This report helped me put words to that shift. #cognitivewarfare #weaponizingAI #digitalethics #ethics #digitalrights #democracy https://www.kas.de/en/web/canada/event-reports/detail/-/content/new-publication-wired-for-war-how-authoritarian-states-are-weaponizing-ai-against-the-west-with-migs-1

#Bunnings Windsor Gardens has a lot to learn about customer service.. This morning, american accent girl "serving" couldn't even be bothered to acknowledge existence: Me: "Hello" Her: "Flybuys?" [Turns back to her coworker and continues chatting with him] Me: "No, Hello..." Her: "Cash or Card?" [Turns back to her coworker and continues chatting with him] Me: "Card" Her: [Shoves card reader towards me while continuing chatting with her coworker] Her: [Hands receipt to me while continuing chatting with her coworker] I don't care if your worker has the "major hots" for the guy working next to her, when you're serving a customer acknowledge and serve them. #CustomerService #Ethics #Australia #Adelaide

@servelan@newsie.social Corporate rights are antitrust, as they negate the rights of diverse interests to have elected representatives and delegates. Corporate sovereignty is ideological and monopolistic; games party divisions by grounding the outcome of elections on the finance of those who control the most capital, so is unsustainable. Its idea of competition depends on exploitation; wage and or indentured slavery to steal others resources so creates authoritarian cults. Interests Sovereignty, is not as it is sustainable. It requires mediation and cooperation to be competitive. How else can an ethically sustainable morality be realised? #PhilosophyofRights #politics #philosophy #sustainability #ethics #morality

BREAKING: Pentagon ultimatum to Anthropic (Claude AI). Remove bans on: Fully autonomous lethal weapons (AI selects/kills without human control) Mass surveillance of US citizens Or lose $200M contract. Or face Defense Production Act coercion. Anthropic resisting. For now. This is the moment: private ethics vs. military necessity. Machines deciding who lives and dies. Politicians have bunkers. We have hope. Hope isn't enough. #Ethics #Control #AI https://newsgroup.site/%d0%bf%d0%b5%d0%bd%d1%82%d0%b0%d0%b3%d0%be%d0%bd-%d0%b2%d0%b8%d1%81%d1%83%d0%bd%d1%83%d0%b2-%d1%83%d0%bb%d1%8c%d1%82%d0%b8%d0%bc%d0%b0%d1%82%d1%83%d0%bc-%d1%82%d0%b2%d0%be%d1%80%d1%86%d1%8f%d0%bc-clau/

Hello. This is my nth attempt at staying on #Mastodon, after leaving Meta, X, and related noise. I work around (dual-use) #technology and #ethics, mostly from my hometown, #Barcelona, and sometimes from the Italian Alps (a long love story). I don’t have a clear plan for what to do here. Maybe existing, slowly, is already doing something. Perhaps I’ll post occasionally — or not; who knows. I might leave again after a while. I love #philosophy, sacred places, reading both digital and paper #books, and listening to #music — all day long. Somewhere in between, a #catcow walks across the keyboard and takes partial control :blobcatthisisfine: My mother tongue is #Catalan — English, Spanish, and Italian also happen here. Time zone: CET. If that resonates, welcome. P. S. Much of this is typed on a neo-vintage phone, complete with a physical keyboard — for reasons. ... Només un vianant. #introduction
