#HumanRights and #animalrights are under attack in #conflict zones. Rights defenders are being jailed, persecuted, in some cases made to "disappear". Stay in solidarity with them. Politicians are truly out of touch if they think that ordinary people can embed hidden messages in unicode with steganography. If they're worried over people mapping abstract cultural and political ideas to emotes, then they need to mind their own business and quit infringing upon their citizen's human rights. Specifically the right to freedom of speech. @caekislove@caekis.love Tags: #politics, #humanrights, #privacy, #freedomofexpression, #freedomofspeech.

At least 160,000 people to be removed from NDIS as Labor unveils “unavoidable and urgent” cuts

  • as the fossil fuel industry rubs their hands together grinning and awaiting the sweet sweet cash-influx..

“At least 160,000 people are expected to be removed from the National Disability Insurance Scheme by 2030, as the Albanese government looks to claw back savings by changing who can access the scheme.

The health minister, Mark Butler, also announced on Wednesday the $50bn scheme’s growth rate will be brought down to just 2% every year until 2030 in an effort to curb annual plan inflation and produce billions in savings.

The government will dramatically increase the categories of service providers required to register with the federal government, adding more higher risk activities, including personal care, daily living supports, and supports provided in closed settings.”

  • So while the responsibilities of the care providers are increased, their pay goes down.

“There are about 760,000 people on the scheme at the moment, meaning at least 160,000 will no longer be able to access the NDIS within four years.

“These are hard decisions – but they’re unavoidable and urgent,” Butler said.”

  • But apparently new gas projects, perks for the fossil fuel industry, paying the DT regime $368b for subs we’ll never receive, etc.etc.etc. are ‘Easy decisions’ for Labor.. Well done Labor, good job, as usual.. 🙄

Just In: ‘Goods over humans’: EU condemned for failure to suspend Israel trade deal Human rights experts, including Erika Guevara Rosas, Amnesty International’s senior director for research and advocacy, have accused the European Union of “knowingly enabling” Israel’s “grave violations” after two EU countries blocked a move to suspend a trade agreement between the trading bloc and Israel. “The EU’s failure to suspend its Association Agreement with Israel is a damning betrayal of its own values,” Rosas wrote in a post on X after Germany and Italy blocked a move put forward by Spain, Slovenia and Ireland to suspend the deal. “Given the overwhelming evidence that Israel has committed genocide in Gaza, maintained an apartheid system against Palestinians, and unlawfully occupied their territory, inaction becomes a deliberate choice,” Rosas added. Francesca Albanese, the UN’s special rapporteur for the occupied Palestinian territory, also condemned the decision. “Maintaining trade in times of genocide means valuing goods over humans,” she said in a post on X. “Markets over life,” she added. Before Germany and Italy stopped the bid on Tuesday, more than 60 human rights organisations, including Amnesty and Human Rights Watch, had called on the EU and member states to suspend the Association Agreement with Israel. https://www.aljazeera.com/news/liveblog/2026/4/22/iran-war-live-trump-says-ceasefire-extended-as-talks-with-tehran-in-limbo?update=4512088 #EUFail #GermanyComplicit #ItalyComplicit #Complicit #WarCrimes #News #HumanRights #Activism #Gaza #Palestine #BoycottIsrael

New more factual headline: "NDIS is costing too much and growing too fast because the fossil fuel industry is making people sicker and sicker, so we're going to abandon the sick by cutting NDIS in favor of continued support to the fossil fuel industry that's making everyone sick" There you go, wasn't that hard to tell the truth now was it? https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/live/2026/apr/22/australia-news-live-ndis-savings-cuts-mark-butler-aged-care-cost-of-living-budget-jim-chalmers-labor-coalition-ntwnfb #LaborFail #NDIS #Corruption #AUSPol #News #HumanRights #Health #Activism

So, it now seems like ASIO will be able to:

  • arrest you for questioning with approval rubber-stamped by the AG (instead of a warrant after a judge being shown evidence)
  • detain you indefinitely

If you are arrested or detained by ASIO, it’s now illegal to:

  • tell someone that happened to you
  • refuse to speak (rely on the right to silence)

This includes children as young as 14 years old—meaning they can’t tell their parent or guardian that they’ve been arrested.

Lawyers are permitted to be present during questioning, but I’m not sure if they are included in the “you can’t tell anyone” clause of the legislation, and the ASIO agents who are conducting the interrogation get to dictate how they advise and interact with their clients.

Your lawyer can also be removed if those ASIO agents decide they’re a “security risk”.

Your lawyer isn’t allowed to intervene during the interrogation (to tell you your rights, for example), and can only ask for the agents to clarify a question or ask for you to be able to have a break.

This legislation will also have no sunset clause. It’ll be permanent.

(this is only from a quick scan of the legislation, I’m sure there’s a bunch of other things I’m missing atm)

@hsza@social.tudbut.de I certainly would if the opposite site would dial down the #Enshittification and revert back to a useable state! Or do you also kindly ask a burglar to leave? No, you call the cops / drectly overwhelm them and force them to the ground face down to be dragged out by the cops. If I won't stand my ground, noone else will stand up for me (or the #TechIlliterates) either. #HumanRights & #CivilRights are not to be asked for but enforced!Sounds harsh, but that's my life experience…

English – The Conversation | Politics with Michelle Grattan: former minister Ed Husic on why Labor must ‘stare down’ gas companies over tax by Michelle Grattan, Professorial Fellow, University of Canberra AI generated summary, Read the full article for complete information. In the lead‑up to next month’s federal budget, Treasurer Jim Chalmers must juggle global uncertainty, a fuel crisis and cost‑of‑living relief while weighing reforms to negative gearing, capital‑gains tax, a gas export tax and the NDIS. Former industry minister Ed Husic argues that Australia is “selling the country short” by earning almost nothing from about $170 billion of LNG exports over four years and insists Labor should “stare down” gas‑company pressure and pursue a fairer royalty or Petroleum Resource Rent Tax. He welcomes the Senate inquiry into gas taxation and warns the Albanese government not to be intimidated by multinational threats to relocate investment. On artificial intelligence, Husic calls for a comprehensive national AI Act and a dedicated regulator to set guardrails now rather than adopt a lax, reactive approach. He also urges stronger action against Islamophobia and antisemitism, recommending the Bondi royal commission broaden its remit and the government implement anti‑vilification laws and respond to the Human Rights Commission’s anti‑racism framework. Jewish man arrested for supporting the victims of Palestine, under QLD premier David Chrisafulli's unjust "not allowed to support victims" *laws* "Stephen Heydt woke up on Saturday, put on a T-shirt, hobbled out the door with the aid of a walking stick and spoke at a rally in the middle of Brisbane – where he was promptly arrested by a large and heavily armed contingent of police. For his choice of words and wardrobe, the 73-year-old Jewish clinical psychologist became one of the first people in Queensland charged under new laws [falsely claiming to] crack down on antisemitic hate speech." https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2026/apr/21/queensland-ban-pro-palestinian-slogan-crackdown-joh-bjelke-petersen-era-ntwnfb #RemoveChisafulli #RepealUnjustLaws #HumanRights #News #AUSPol #Activism

"Adelaide University considers dropping Santos name from building " And so it should. "The newly formed Adelaide University is considering removing [toxic] gas company Santos’s name from one of its buildings. On Saturday, students and conservationists rallied outside the Santos "Petroleum Engineering" building, calling on the university to dump the name because of the company’s new gas projects. The university had already been considering dropping the name after a sponsorship deal expired, its vice-chancellor told Guardian Australia. Prof Nicola Phillips started as vice-chancellor in January after the University of South Australia and the University of Adelaide merged. “That process of consideration was already under way,” she said." https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2026/apr/20/adelaide-university-considers-dropping-santos-name-from-building-ntwnfb #BoycottSantos #ClimateChange #Environment #News #HumanRights #Activism #Adelaide
