Very proud of my students for their Shakespeare anthology performance. We performed scenes from 6 Shakespeare plays. The back drops were rotatable stage flats that could be changed to set different scenes and all painted by the students (I did the office scene) Who wants to guess which play is in each photo here? IONE, CA — Yesterday, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) again partnered with the Torlakson Whole Child Institute (TWCI) to host a middle school career exploration field trip at CAL FIRE’s Ione Training Center. This is the second collaboration between the two organizations, continuing the shared mission to spark early interest in career paths in the fire service that do not require a traditional college degree. The Ione Training Center welcomed students from Magnolia Intermediate School in Grass Valley who participated in hands-on activities and interacted directly with CAL FIRE professionals from various fields, which included Fire Technology, Emergency Dispatch, Building Trades, and Natural Resource Management. Each activity offered practical insight into the skills, responsibilities, and training associated with each field. Throughout the day, additional CAL FIRE professionals, from administrative, culinary, heavy equipment mechanics, heavy equipment operators, and logistics, lead the groups, answered questions, and shared their experiences. I agree with Teachers that education has become too obsessed with exams (including universities where exams are uses to combat the corrosive use of AI), not least as it results in an anti-humanist education, but blaming schools for not preparing young people for work (and rise in economic inactivity among the young), approaches victim blaming; the problem reflects the UK's low-wage economy, where workers are seen as a cost & not invested in. #workers #education #NEETs https://www.theguardian.com/education/2026/apr/20/exam-obsessed-school-system-unprepared-work-alan-milburn

Whatever you think of having more students with Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND) taught in mainstream schools, there's a significant practical problem. At the vey same time that the Govt. has claimed it wants to reduce burdens on teachers (not least to try & raise recruitment), once again (as with additions to the curriculum) a policy is predicated on teachers having sufficient extra time to provide more teaching; its madness. #schools #education #SEND https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c15dzz8z153o
