#Meta to cut 10% of staff as it pours billions into #AI
Meta said Thursday it plans to lay off roughly 10% of its workforce, or about 8,000 people, the latest in a string of #tech industry #layoffs fueled in part by #ArtificialIntelligence.
The company is also closing around 6,000 open roles, Janelle Gale, Meta’s chief people officer, wrote in a memo published by Bloomberg.
The layoffs will go into effect on May 20.

I keep hearing media & #LLM fans say that tech isn't losing jobs to #AI, while #Microsoft offers buyouts & #Meta is letting go of 10% of staff, and all the layoffs we had last year & the year before that.

What do you think, is #AI stealing this #tech employee's #tech #career ?
Of course only employers know but I would say confidently that many #eCommerce #jobs especially entry level can be replaced with AI.
My biggest concern about the AI impact on the job #market is that many entry level jobs are being wiped out. This is because with AI, for many tech related tasks, you can get away with a Intermediate or Senior supervising the AI agents as they work.

The only companies that participate in "Best Place to Work" surveys are those that are so insecure that they feel the need to "game" outside recognition to make themselves feel better about building a hostile and non-inclusive workplace.
Every company that participates makes the list because you pay to be nominated for it and there's usually enough HR people to 5 star rate everything that you'll get in regardless.

If you have work for a green but enthusiastic young dev, let me know. I have a son that has time for more work than I can give him.
He's comfortable in C, C++, Python, JS, and similar. He's done some real CUDA coding and is good at GPU related stuff.
But I can also vouch for his code in R, HTML, SQL, and several game engines — just to name a few.

- you don’t have to re-tell them the same context over and over.
- they work independently for days at a time.
- they tell you when they get stuck
- they never hallucinate
they’ll even take out the trash and do the dishes (if your intern is your kid). 🙂
