Union Pacific No.4014 "Big Boy," a 4-8-8-4 steam engine, rolling along the southern edge of the Black Rock playa in Nevada yesterday morning. I'm off to try and catch the 4014 crossing the Clio trestle tomorrow morning. There's a forecast for rain and the humidity will be high. The Union Pacific No.4014 "Big Boy," a 4-8-8-4 steam engine built in 1941, rolling over the Clio Trestle on the historic Feather River Route in Northern California this morning. It was a challenging day chasing the UP No.4014. It was very slow coming up the hill in the Feather River Canyon. By the time it got in the area where I was, it was late in the day and the light was fading fast. With the rain, and snow further up the hill, the 4014 was really blowing steam! The No. 4014 entering the Williams Loop, a rail spiral on the Union Pacific Railroad's Feather River Route. It was really chugging heading up the hill to the Sierra Valley & summit at Beckwourth Pass. I was standing on the upper part of the loop as the train crossed under me. Very impressive the steam / smoke / power of that engine under full load. It will give local leaders powers and funding to expand contactless “tap-and-go” travel across #buses, #trains and #trams, building on systems in cities such as #London and #Nottingham. The plan includes over 40 commitments, alongside measures to keep travel affordable, such as fare caps and fuel duty freezes. A new partnership with Google will provide real-time bus tracking via Google Maps, particularly benefiting rural areas. Other initiatives include a £6 million Peak District pilot to better link buses and trains, and expansion of a national parking platform to simplify payments. 🌃🚆🛫 Great Western Railway (GWR) will trial overnight services to #Gatwick #Airport from 6 June, running for 12 weeks to test demand for early-morning and late-night connections between the Thames Valley and the airport. The trial includes two Reading–Gatwick trains on Saturday mornings, plus three return services, and one Reading–Gatwick and two return #trains on Mondays. Stops include Reading, Wokingham, Guildford, Dorking Deepdene, Reigate, Redhill and Gatwick. 🇮🇪 Ireland’s National #Transport Authority has launched an inclusivity campaign to promote #diversity across the Transport for #Ireland (TFI) public transport network. Building on previous anti-racism initiatives, the campaign presents public transport as a welcoming space for all passengers, regardless of background, identity or ability. Advertisements will appear on #buses, trams and #trains, as well as on social media, sharing the experiences of people who use public transport each day. Using the tagline “Transport for Ireland is Transport for you, transport for everyone”, the campaign highlights the role of public transport in connecting communities. NTA chief executive Anne Shaw said accessible and inclusive transport is a key priority, noting it provides essential access to education, employment and independence. She added that improving transport options can help remove barriers and support inclusion across society. Photo taken a few minutes ago at Málaga María Zambrano station. Normally I would be pleased to get such a variety of trains into a single photo. But not today. Malaga remains cut off from the rest of the Spanish high-speed network by a landslide near Álora, with no immediate prospect of a restored service. So of all these trains, only the diesel railcar furthest from the camera can go anywhere. For the rest, the station is just a place to park. /ctd #trains #TrainTravel

🚄🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 #ScotRail has begun seeking finance for a new suburban fleet of at least 69 trains, with options for up to 37 more, ahead of their planned introduction in the early 2030s. The operator will enter a rolling stock lease once the #trains are in service. A separate process to appoint a manufacturer was launched last November. The trains are expected to serve routes including East #Kilbride, Fife, the Borders and Glasgow’s inner suburban lines. Planned features include air-conditioning, improved reliability, step-free access, and more space for bicycles and wheelchairs. The #Scottish Government has approved the procurement, which is being aligned with electrification works by Network Rail.
