Amtrak lags in maintenance & updates to its inventory. When a rail car needs service, it gets mothballed & trains get shorter. Not enough cars are in service to meet demand. They have funding but are moving slow.

I dropped my 17YO granddaughter off at the #Eugene #Amtrak station today for her to return home.
When her train rolled in, I was distressed to see such a ragged out, worn, dented, greasy, poor excuse for a train. All the cars and both engines (pusher and puller) looked like they had not been washed since 1983.
Having ridden the Frecciarossa fast trains in Italy (300 Km/h) and several sparkling and fast German and French trains, I was embarrassed by the #train the U.S. of A has to offer.
