Just finished reading The Voice of Saruman chapter in LOTR The Two Towers.
I genuinely loved that chapter. Like, Saruman is clearly evil, but there was things he said where I audibly laughed:
“Will I come down?” he mocked. “Does an unarmed man come down to speak with robbers out of doors?”
Like, that felt like a very visceral real conversation between two old friends. Absolutely love the writing.

Reading The Two Towers after watching the extended edition. I have to say I'm enjoying LOTR so much now that I have some mental context for the characters in the book. I actually understand what is going on now!
(I got a bit lost in Book 2 of Fellowship of the Rings, and coincidentally I forgot the second half of the extended version...)
