Update. The passage in the #Trump budget criticizing expensive #subscriptions and #APCs (previous post, this thread) triggered a debate in the House of Representatives. "US lawmakers intensify scrutiny of scientific-publishing practices." https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-026-01251-y "From ‘paper mills’ that sell authorships on fake or low-quality research papers to the costs associated with open-access publishing, US lawmakers are paying increasing attention to widely debated issues in scientific publishing. In a rare show of unity, members of the US House of Representatives from both sides of the political aisle agreed at a hearing that these issues deserve more attention from government — but there was less unity on what the solutions should be." #OpenAccess #Publishing #ScholComm

An interesting research paper on bitflips in SRAM: Laurent Pichon. Laurent Le Brizoual, Edna Ferrucho Alvarez, Ludovic Claudepierre, "Electrical modelisation of a bitflip in SRAM cell memory induced by laser fault injection"¹, Microelectronics Reliability, Vol. 179, April 2026. An electrical model of the bitflip in SRAM under laser illumination simulating laser fault injection is proposed. This model is based on a bipolar phototransistor responsible of the amplified induced photocurrent resulting to the Off/On switching of MOSFET in CMOS inverter. In this model a photodiode is connected between the collector(drain)/base(bulk) of the parasitic bipolar transistor. In this configuration the photodiode acts as photocurrent generator and the bipolar transistor as amplifier. The ability of this model to simulate the laser fault injection is first shown in CMOS inverter and then in SRAM cell memory. __ ¹ https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0026271426000569 (#OpenAccess)

New book! Spotlight on a Region: Knowledge on the Nordics is a diverse collection of articles about society, history and culture in the Nordic countries. The book is written for a general audience. My contribution is a condensed history of #opengovernment in the Nordic countries. In the times of AI, it seems hopelessly outdated. What will happen to open government in the near future? Will there be any transparency left in Nordic democracies if the illusion of economic efficiency triumphs over the citizen's right to be informed? #openaccess download: https://sh.diva-portal.org/smash/record.jsf?pid=diva2%3A2042320&dswid=-8000 Book details: Witcombe, N., Götz, N., & Hilson, M. Amazon just pulled Kindle Store access from every Kindle released before 2013. The hardware still works. Your books still work. Side-loading EPUBs over USB still works. The fix is the same one that's worked since 2007 — and here's exactly how to do it, step by step: https://lk0.eu/bks901m #Bookstodon #ebooks #kindle #FediReads #OpenAccess

Konsorcjum finansujące ORE składa się obecnie z członków z Austrii, Francji, Niemiec, Włoch, Holandii, Norwegii, Portugalii, Słowenii, Hiszpanii, Szwecji i Szwajcarii [2]. Komisja Europejska uczestniczy w pracach organu zarządzającego jako stały obserwator i zapewnia dedykowane wsparcie finansowe. CERN zapewni infrastrukturę techniczną i operacyjną platformy, opartą na oprogramowaniu open source Open Journal Systems (OJS), natomiast zarządzanie i nadzór redakcyjny pozostaną w gestii konsorcjum ORE." P.S. Dzięki CERN mamy www i web 😉 Całość [EN]: https://home.cern/news/news/cern/cern-host-europes-flagship-open-access-publishing-platform Więcej o platformie: https://ore.eu/ #OpenScience #Europe #Europa #UE #nauka

This randomized controlled trial examines whether music-based group exercise offers advantages over standard individual exercise in patients with acquired brain injury. Using a four-week intervention, the authors compare cognitive performance, mood, and activities of daily living between both approaches. While music-based group training was not superior in clinical outcomes, the study provides careful evidence that both formats support cognitive and functional improvement, with clear differences in enjoyment, concentration, and individual preference. Scientific publishing may be the biggest scam you've never heard of. A billion-dollar industry built on free labor and public money—then sold back to us at a markup. It's not just broken. It's sabotaging progress. #Science #OpenAccess #AcademicPublishing https://www.zmescience.com/science/news-science/we-need-to-talk-about-the-billion-dollar-industry-holding-science-hostage/
