@tinker@infosec.exchange and it also reinforces my belief that there is no valid reason not to properly encrypt everything! No, #BitLocker is not a real #encryption, as it has #Govware #backdoors!

EU Chat Control drops mandatory encryption-breaking scans — huge privacy win after years of resistance! 🎉 But now pushes mandatory age verification across apps, risking anonymity while letting Big Tech "voluntarily" scan. Fight continues in trilogues. 🛡️ 🔗 https://tuta.com/blog/chat-control-criticism #TechNews #Privacy #Chat #Control #ChatControl #EU #Europe #Encryption #AgeVerification #Surveillance #DigitalRights #Resistance #Cybersecurity #Anonymity #BigTech

HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol) is an insecure method for transmitting data in plain text, making it vulnerable to interception. HTTPS (HTTP Secure) uses SSL/TLS encryption to protect data in transit, providing confidentiality and integrity. #Internet #security #encryption #HTTPS #HTTP #Tech

1/2 🚨 Today, the European Parliament is holding a public hearing on "lawful access to data for law enforcement." This hearing will platform the Commission and Europol's relentless attack on end-to-end #encryption. We're heard this before: "lawful access" = encryption backdoors = #MassSurveillance ❌ ✊🏾 We need EU lawmakers to #KeepItSafeAndSecure #KISS 🔒 💌 Sign our petition and join us in urging our lawmakers to protect encryption and ban spyware: https://edri.org/take-action/our-campaigns/keep-it-safe-and-secure/

TIL:

If you have your Samsung T7 Touch SSD encrypted with a password (and maybe a fingerprint) ..and you want to remove the encryption (or delete/change password/fingerprint)…. Your device (MS Win) has to be connected to the internet. Otherwise the neccessary software just hangs after unlocking the SSD.

WTAF Samsung. For real.

This lead me to two questions:

  1. What are the odds that passwords and fingerprints are casually transfered to some Samsung service? (Rhetorical question. No answers expected)

  2. I constantly mistyped “encryption” as “encraption” while composing this toot. Should I stick with that term when it comes to Samsung?

Lawsuit Alleges That WhatsApp Has No End-to-End Encryption A lawsuit filed in San Francisco alleges that #WhatsApp's end-to-end encryption contains backdoors allowing #Meta employees to access user messages in real-time. According to the complaint, internal tools allow engineers to view chats by User ID without a separate decryption step, bypassing the Signal Protocol protections the app claims to use. The lawsuit cites £whistleblowers who claim that workers can request access to specific accounts via internal tasks, gaining unlimited temporal scope to a user's history, including deleted messages. Meta has labeled these claims false and absurd. Technical experts note that while the Signal Protocol itself is mathematically secure, the integrity of end-to-end encryption relies entirely on the security of the endpoints. Potential vulnerabilities in WhatsApp include unencrypted cloud backups, metadata collection, and the fact that the client software is closed-source. Without the ability to audit the code or verify public keys through an independent directory, users must trust that the application is not exfiltrating plaintext data before it is encrypted for transit. The legal action highlights the ongoing tension between corporate privacy marketing and the technical reality of centralized messaging platforms. If the allegations of an internal "widget" for message access are proven true, it would represent a fundamental breach of the encryption standards Meta has advertised since 2016. https://it.slashdot.org/story/26/01/27/0550249/lawsuit-alleges-that-whatsapp-has-no-end-to-end-encryption #WhatsApp #Meta #Privacy #CyberSecurity #Encryption #DataPrivacy #E2EE #TechNews #Lawsuit #Whistleblower #DigitalRights #Messaging #InformationSecurity #SignalProtocol
