A massive drought coupled with political mismanagement might fully deplete water in a major city: neither in West Asia nor Africa, but in the United States. The city of Corpus Christi, Texas could soon completely out of water in the next year. #climatechange #climatecrisis #globalwarming https://futurism.com/science-energy/texas-water-crisis-climate

California’s wildlife bridge became a target for the right. Now it’s eyeing the finish line. Unhindered by critics who called the $114m project ‘a bridge to nowhere’, a gigantic bridge allowing animals to cross a busy freeway is close to completion. #ClimateChange #ClimateCrisis #GlobalWarming https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/apr/25/california-wildlife-crossing-construction

They promised climate action for years, but what these meat and dairy giants were really selling was something else https://phys.org/news/2026-04-climate-action-years-meat-dairy.html #AnimalRights #meat #dairy #climate #ClimateChange #ClimateCrisis #GlobalWarming #ClimateAction #GoVegan

"A billionaire death cult has its fingers around humanity’s throat. It both causes and downplays our existential crisis. The oligarchs are not just a class enemy but, as they have always been, a societal enemy: a few thousand people can destroy civilisations. It’s the billions v the billionaires, and the stakes could not possibly be higher." https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2026/apr/23/catastrophic-climate-event-scientists-atlantic-system-collapse-billionaire-existential-crisis #climatecrisis #talkcollaps

Some *light* reading -- history and prophecy... I read #FrankWaters "#TheBookOfTheHopi" many years ago, but misplaced my old copy. Refreshing myself on #HopiProphecy and what it all means for the times we are living in. #EricCline's "#1177BC" has been a good read. I'm finding his chapter about a "perfect storm of calamities" to be relevant to the age we are living in now, especially with regard to #ClimateCrisis and #Polycrisis. Graeber/Wengrow's "#TheDawnOfEverything" has taken me a while to get through... So much to take in. Learning about power and systems of power and their origins. "The Occult Features of #Anarchism" by #EricaLagalisse also deals with systems of power -- and how #MutualAid is part of true autonomy (I agree). #Bookstodon #AmReading #ReadWithPride #BannedBooks #ToBeBanned? #ReadWhileItsStillLegal #BigBrother #Fascism #Authoritarianism #DavidGraeber #DavidWengrow

A More Troubling Picture of Sea Level Rise Is Coming into View. Scientists have uncovered a “blind spot” in the research on rising seas, revealing that tens of millions of people thought safe from coastal flooding are at risk of inundation. Across much of the world, sea levels are higher than previously assumed and land is sinking faster. #ClimateChange #ClimateCrisis #GlobalWarming https://e360.yale.edu/features/sea-level-rise-land-subsidence

i try to emphasize good news and if i can't do that i try to emphasize anger over sadness but there's nothing i can do about this bit of news except be depressed: "Mass drowning of chicks puts emperor #penguins at risk of #extinction" https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2026/apr/09/mass-drowning-of-chicks-puts-emperor-penguins-at-risk-of-extinction essentially, #globalWarming, the #climateCrisis, is breaking up the ice the #emperorPenguin depends upon to raise its young, and this is resulting in mass killings of their young now 😔 #penguin #science #climateChange #ecology

Last year, Thailand-based crypto businessman, Christopher Harborne, donated £12 million to Reform. Hong Kong-based British crypto investor Ben Delo has donated £4 million earlier this year. The government placed a £100,000 cap on donations to political parties by Brits living abroad last month. Spotlight on Corruption and Unlock Democracy are asking the question whether the cap should apply to all donations. I think it probably should? #RejoinEU #StandwithUkraine #ClimateCrisis

A dramatic collapse of the #AntarcticFurSeal population likewise prompted the #IUCN to change the species’s status from “least concern” to “#endangered.” The organization said that rising #ocean temperatures have pushed the seals’ main prey — krill — to greater ocean depths, making it harder for the seals to find food. Between 1999 & 2025, the IUCN said, the number of Antarctic fur seals dropped by more than 50% #GlobalWarming #wildlife #MarineLife #ClimateChange #ClimateCrisis #law

Most #volcanoes warm the #atmosphere with SO2 But the 2022 Hunga #Tonga eruption was unique Deep enough for sea water to penetrate, but shallow enough for the explosion to push water into the *mesosphere* 🤯 The water penetration removed most of the SO2, and the water is also still up there in the #stratosphere, *cooling* us Meaning: #GlobalWarming should be even worse than it already is, and could rebound to such as the high water veil dissipates https://indiandefencereview.com/hunga-volcano-space-plume-stratosphere-froze/ #ClimateCrisis

The Guardian | Google to tap into gas plant for AI datacenter in sharp turn from climate goals by Dara Kerr Texas power plant would emit 4.5m tons of carbon dioxide per year, more than that of the entire city of San Francisco Google has struck a partnership for a natural gas power plant that could provide energy for one of its datacenters in Texas, unearthed by new research and confirmed by the company. The move is part of an ongoing about-face for the tech giant, which once pledged to be carbon neutral by 2030 and has long been seen as a pioneer in clean energy. The gas power plant is slated to be built in Armstrong county, a sparsely populated area in the Texas panhandle. According to a report by the research organization Cleanview, the project is being led by Crusoe Energy, which partnered with Google to develop the datacenter campus known as “Goodnight”, named after a nearby town. Recent Acceleration in Global Warming Multiple recent studies suggest the pace of global warming has accelerated significantly over the past decade. A 2026 study published in Geophysical Research Letters analysed five major global temperature datasets and found that the Earth warmed at a rate of 0.35°C per decade between 2015 and 2025, up from 0.2°C per decade between 1970 and 2015— a 75% increase. This acceleration is described as statistically significant by the study's authors, marking a potential turning point in the climate crisis. #ClimateCrisis #ClimateBreakdown #GlobalWarming #ClimateChange

Listening to Kemi #Badenoch ramble on about the UK standing back from Trump's crazy narcissistic world suggests she isn't listening to the UK people. Polls say the 49% oppose #Trump's crazy world! A former NATO senior commander calls Trump & his accolytes 'gung ho nutters' who have 'no idea how this stupidity will end'. Predictably #Farage, a gung ho nutter if I ever saw one, is prepared to follow Trump into a dystopian world of darkness & misery for millions, yet 'loads of money' for the fat cats. It is indeed a nightmare. #RejoinEU #ClimateCrisis #StandwithUkraine
