This is still excellent advice.

Things to Do

  1. Look for beautiful stones.
  2. Look for flat stones.
  3. Look for round stones.
  4. Look for other interesting things.

— found in “Pathways in Science / We Look About Us” by Gerald S. Craig and Agnes Burke, 1933

What the heck is this? Google “thinks” it might be a Montgomery Ward badge, but I don’t know if that’s based on people who guessed or knew what the MW stood for. It’s metal set in wood with two holes on the back with metal nubs inside. The back has a felt-like coating, so maybe a paperweight but that doesn’t explain the holes. Ideas? #mystery #vintage #antiques #mw

Ooh, I’ll have to give this beauty a proper scan soon — a double truck ad for Willys-Overland with art by Coles Phillips. Found in the June 1916 issue of The Designer. Almost 110 years old and look at that color! #antiques #vintage #colesphillips #advertising #art

I’m thankful I found out about my job situation before last weekend’s auction, otherwise I would’ve gotten myself into a bit of a financial pickle by bidding on these beauties. #vintage #antiques #auction #art #billiards

A new Baumgartner restoration dropped. This time, a beautiful Dutch plate - something that he admits is outside his wheelhouse - and his patient explanation as he proceeds with his task https://youtu.be/pbtGjWztgZA?si=dPpZi5n-Rs-rkGC6 #entertainment #antiques #restoration #cool

These seven McCall’s magazines (five from 1939, one each from 1940 and 1945) were my biggest get from yesterday’s North Star Auction. McCall’s was one of the Seven Sisters in the magazine world, the others being Better Homes and Gardens, Family Circle, Good Housekeeping, Ladies’ Home Journal, Redbook, and Woman’s Day. Once boasting a readership of 6.8 million, its final issue was in 2002. #vintage #antiques #auctions #magazines #history

Taylor, Smith & Taylor (TS&T) Taylorstone Cathay Atomic Starburst pattern circa 1964, seen at yesterday’s North Star Auction preview. Not as crazy expensive as Pyrex’s Atomic Starburst, but still a neat pattern. #vintage #antiques #auctions #dinnerware #midcentury
