In the world of federal contracting, it is the difference between a temporary surge and a permanent infrastructure.” He says the use of the military funding mechanism is meant to disburse funds quickly, without the typical bidding war among contractors, which would typically create a period of public scrutiny. Using the Navy contract means that new projects can be created with “task orders,” which can be turned around almost immediately, when “specific dates and locations are identified” by DHS. “It means the infrastructure is currently a ‘ghost’ network that can be materialized anywhere in the US the moment a site is picked,” Manríquez wrote. Amid its push to deport 1 million people each year, the White House has said it needs to dramatically increase the scale of its detention apparatus to add more beds for those who are arrested. But Manríquez said documents suggest “this isn’t just about bed space; it’s about the rapid deployment of self-contained cities.” So much of the good dirt in this article stems from the reporting of Pablo Manríquez from Migrant Insider, who in turn is working from actual government contract information; so this is definitely real. As the report notes, the Navy currently has about 55B dollars set aside to fund this nightmare, so in addition to the six 10K person-sized, tent city concertation camps expected to be built in Louisiana, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Utah, and Kansas, they're also creating the infrastructure and capacity to build many more such camps anywhere the federal government wants to, provided they own the land. In recent years the Exchange has faced a steep decline. Sales have fallen 19 % from fiscal 2012 to 2024, with fiscal 2024 marking the lowest sales in nearly two decades outside the pandemic period. Dividends that fund the support programs dropped 43 % between 2013 and 2024. The chain has lost market share to civilian giants like Walmart, Amazon and Target, and its stores have become dated, lagging in e‑commerce and failing to meet modern retail fundamentals. The resulting pressure threatens the benefits that service members and families rely on, prompting Nexcom’s leadership to acknowledge that a “competitor‑style” turnaround was essential. To reverse the trend, Nexcom hired retail consultant Melissa Gonzalez in 2020 and launched a “Store of the Future” initiative, investing $20 million to date with an additional $80 million planned over three years. Renovations focus on brighter lighting, digital signage, clearer department layouts, and curated assortments that highlight individual brands rather than a one‑size‑fits‑all approach. Jebel Ali Port, which is immediately next to Palm Jameria where the hotels were hit, also suffered significant damage due to drones. Now of course ballistic and hypersonic missiles aren't everything, Iran's strategy still contains a TON of small missile attack boats designed to swarm US carriers. The small boats have a mix of cheap multi-launch missile systems as well as high end anti-ship guided missiles(some can go 1000km!!). They ALSO include anti-aircraft missiles so the can lay in wiat to interdict US aircraft on their way to Iran. They have thousands of these water craft. #Iran #USNavy
