#Meta to cut 10% of staff as it pours billions into #AI
Meta said Thursday it plans to lay off roughly 10% of its workforce, or about 8,000 people, the latest in a string of #tech industry #layoffs fueled in part by #ArtificialIntelligence.
The company is also closing around 6,000 open roles, Janelle Gale, Meta’s chief people officer, wrote in a memo published by Bloomberg.
The layoffs will go into effect on May 20.

Oracle has cut around 10,000 jobs in India, sources told ET. This is part of a global restructuring affecting 30,000 employees. The company is reducing roles in its tech divisions. Oracle Financial Software Services also saw job losses. Employees are concerned about increased workloads. Oracle laid off some employees on Tuesday, according to two employees and LinkedIn posts.The cuts come as Oracle is trying to cut costs.The company's stock has dropped nearly 30% this year as AI fears have driven a software sell-off.Oracle started laying off employees on Tuesday, according to two affected workers and several social media posts.
The cuts appear to have affected employees globally, but the full extent of the layoffs could not be immediately learned. Several people posted on LinkedIn on Tuesday to announce they had been impacted by the layoffs.

Welp ... I was just informed through a Slack DM that I will no longer be working at the place I'm working at in two weeks' time. That is, evidently, how we handle that now. Not entirely unexpected as the writing on the wall was evident, but still not loving that approach for reasons I haven't quite worked out yet.
