#Meta to cut 10% of staff as it pours billions into #AI Meta said Thursday it plans to lay off roughly 10% of its workforce, or about 8,000 people, the latest in a string of #tech industry #layoffs fueled in part by #ArtificialIntelligence. The company is also closing around 6,000 open roles, Janelle Gale, Meta’s chief people officer, wrote in a memo published by Bloomberg. And speaking of your package getting longer to get there, apparently less employees means more profit (instead of, you know, doing their actual jobs).

A tip on how to strengthen your business by reducing the workforce (that IS the reason they gave). Anyhow, your package may take longer to get there btw.

Amazon to reduce workforce by 16,000, company says in email to staff https://abcnews.go.com/Business/amazon-reduce-staff-16000-company-email-staff/story?id=129627660

Welp ... I was just informed through a Slack DM that I will no longer be working at the place I'm working at in two weeks' time. That is, evidently, how we handle that now. Not entirely unexpected as the writing on the wall was evident, but still not loving that approach for reasons I haven't quite worked out yet. If anyone needs help with their #accessibility from someone with both native #screenReader experience and a coding background, keep me in mind I guess :) #fediHired #layoffs
