This Saturday will be the date of the next massive protest rallies across the US, and I am very down in spirits that I can't participate. Last October, I had to miss the protest march because I had to work, and the same thing now. This Saturday is the first day of the spring break, and the zoo will be busy, and hence I will be working. I have been regularly putting in my twice-a-week solitary one-person vigils with a protest sign for months now. But just me alone on a random neighborhood street corner feels so inadequate. I keep it up, because I can do it around my schedule. But I've longed to be part of these bigger impact gatherings. Anyway, today I had a thought. Do I know any friends who might come out with me this Saturday? Anybody who lives nearby, and shares my politics, and is free at that time on a Saturday? I've already e-mailed one possible friend, and am thinking about who else i might ask. If there are two or three of us together, I think it will feel different, as if we are a splinter from the larger tree, an offshoot of the larger event on the same day. It's given my spirit a boost, just to have thought of this. Still a few days till the weekend, so I'll see how this idea plays out.
