I started out as @monkeyninja and eventually decided I wanted to run my own Mastodon instance, so here we are. I'm a dad, devoted husband to @oceanic, DevOps Engineer turned DevOps Manager, GenX geek, #ActuallyAutistic, #Jewish and wishing Israel would just stop fucking murdering people for like 30 seconds. I write about navigating life in #chronicpain, #technology, #bigotry, #ttrpg, #politics, and occasionally I'll share some of my #recipes. My kiddo is "The Zergling." I want them to have anonymity and I want them to feel that if what they were assigned at birth doesn't fit as they get older that they have choices. So until they're old enough to decide who they are and the extent they want their life online, you'll never see me post a photo of them and unless I slip up, you'll never see me post their gender. My friend who's currently being deported isn't really into politics. But he supported Donald Trump in 2024.
My friend was scared of the cartels, and thought it was very important to keep them from operating inside US border. He's not wrong about that. But he believed the lie that ICE was only going to deport criminals.
There is no word strong enough to describe how evil Republicans are for using the specter of cartel violence to secure immigrant support only to then round those same immigrants up and send them back into the danger they thought they were voting to avoid.

Some local fucking monster has successfully weaponized ICE against a friend of mine. When the city refused to pick him up, she raised a stink with the county. My friend is now in a concentration camp*, supposedly for 72 hours. He is a single father of a five-year-old special needs child who, thankfully, was not detained with him. I am livid.
*On edit: I have since learned that he's in county lockup, which is itself a cursed place where nobody working there has an ounce of concern for the dignity of the people held captive there.
