The clouds called dibs on the sky tonight, 4/15... Our observatory will be socked in, so the stars are taking a well-deserved night off! No worries — the universe will still be there next week. Oh wow! Even here in foggy San Francisco with tons of light pollution, we were able to see four of Jupiter's moons just now. And the moon is glorious! We actually took out our little telescope to get a better look. Amazing! Look up! #sfba #space #moon #jupiter #nightsky #science

This Week’s Sky at a Glance (Feb 20–March 1) Forecast for us in New England: mostly “meh.” Clouds rule the week, but if you catch a break, look up. Jupiter is blazing high after sunset. Saturn lingers low in the dawn. Orion dominates the evening with Taurus and the Pleiades nearby. Late winter skies are prime deep-sky season—grab it if you can. 👉 https://skyandtelescope.org/astronomy-news/observing-news/this-weeks-sky-at-a-glance-february-20-march-1/ #Astronomy #NightSky #Jupiter #SkyandTelescope #Saturn #Orion #WestportObservatory #Stargazing

A city-size green comet is now visible in the night sky — but C/2024 E1 (Wierzchoś) is just passing through. Astronomers say this icy visitor will soon be flung out of our solar system and into interstellar space, much like 3I/ATLAS. Blink and you’ll miss it — once it’s gone, it’s gone for good. 3 years ago, in January 2023, I captured this beauty, the comet C/2022 E3. C/2022 E3 (ZTF) follows a highly elliptical orbit with a period of approximately 50,000 years. It reached its perihelion on January 12, 2023, at a distance of 1.1 astronomical units (AU) from the Sun. ▼ Vixen VC200L https://astrocamp.eu/en/c-2022-e3-ztf/ #astrophotography #astronomy #nature #deepsky #astroimaging #nightsky #clearsky #telescope #photography #space
