Il Regolamento dell’Unione Europea sulla Deforestazione e il Caffè Costaricano Nel 2023, l’Unione Europea ha introdotto un nuovo regolamento sulla deforestazione (EUDR) che richiede ai commercianti di diverse materie prime agricole, tra cui il caffè, di dimostrare che i loro prodotti non contribuiscono alla deforestazione. Per adattarsi a queste nuove norme, Costa Rica ha sviluppato un programma pilota insieme alla più grande cooperativa di produttori di caffè del paese, avviando le spedizioni di caffè certificato “deforestation-free” verso l’Europa nel marzo 2024. Questo programma ha fornito strumenti e formazione per supportare i coltivatori, i trasformatori e gli esportatori, facilitando così la conformità alle leggi EUDR. Costa Rica ha ottenuto un vantaggio iniziale grazie ai suoi standard di sostenibilità già presenti. Esperti avvertono, però, che altri paesi con standard più bassi potrebbero avere maggiori difficoltà nel replicare questo successo.
