Yesterday I was at a BFI event hosted by Mark Kermode in memory of the film director Terence Davies. These things can end up being lots of speechifying, but this was fabulous. Mark was a brilliant host - passionate about Terence’s work but also genuinely interested in what others had to say. And the guests were great. They ranged from actors and crew who’d worked on the films to the guys from Hurricane Films who got Terence back making movies again, his personal trainer-turned-manager and a neighbour who became a close friend during lockdown and ended up the co-executor of his estate. I learnt a lot more about the man and his working methods. We also got to watch clips from some of the films and saw a short with Terence’s poetry being read by Simon Russell Beale. #TerenceDavies #MarkKermode #BFI #SimonRussellBeale #ukfilm #London #Liverpool #Mistley #cinema #HurricaneFilms

🚈 The #Liverpool City Region Combined Authority is examining how rail services should operate after the current #Merseyrail concession ends in 2028. A report due in March sets out progress to date and highlights the network’s role in supporting an integrated #transport system. It indicates that public ownership could improve links between transport modes and enhance services for passengers, reflecting wider government policy to bring more operators into public control. The authority is being asked to commission a full assessment of options for taking Merseyrail in-house, alongside a delivery plan. A further report will follow. A new rail station at #Deeside Parkway is set to strengthen links between North East #Wales and Liverpool, improving access to Deeside Industrial Estate, one of Europe’s largest employment sites, and easing pressure on local roads. During a visit to the proposed site, Transport Secretary Ken Skates said the project forms part of a £14bn rail investment backed by the #Welsh Government and #UK Government. The station will enhance connections to Liverpool’s jobs and education centres, the Port of #Liverpool and Liverpool John Lennon Airport, supporting cross-border commuting and inward #investment. Planned for completion as early as 2027, the scheme will use a modular approach to speed up delivery. The first of more than 100 publicly owned electric #buses has arrived in the #Liverpool City Region, ahead of entering service in the coming weeks. The zero-emission double-deckers, built by Wrightbus and Alexander Dennis Limited, can travel up to 275 miles on a 90-minute charge and feature wheelchair and pram space, audio-visual announcements, USB charging and free Wi-Fi. Purchased by the Combined Authority, the fleet supports Mayor Steve Rotheram’s target for the region to reach net zero by 2035. The rollout comes as buses are brought back under local control for the first time in 40 years.
