I’ve tried Tusky and Fedilab for Masto. Neither is terrible but like, both have probs that mean I have to use both.

Tusky:

  • No quote support (still)
  • Doesn’t find all replies
  • Emoji support weird

Fedilab:

  • Can’t load comments in long reply chain
  • Refresh doesn’t always work
  • Hard to follow complex convos

…so what else is there to try?

#test

(Linux news in previous posts) FOSS NEWS Odysee receives huge UI improvements and some new features: new video player (mimicking YouTube's video player), home page top slide now displays a channel preview the 3 latest videos and a follow button, mini video player when hovering a video's thumbnail, floating player, search field on channel > Content pages, revamped content upload flow divided into multiple pages, Advanced Editor for writing comments (with text formatting buttons), favicons displayed next to links in text posts and comments FreeTube also received some UI revamp: new video player (also somewhat similar to YouTube's), some text changed to first letter uppercase instead of all uppercase, icons added to subscription page (Why does everyone copy YouTube's video player? It looks kinda ugly... Also, the bottom panel's buttons are barely visible if the video is bright. Odysee's new video player at least has a darker background for those buttons) Mastodon introduces Collections, its take on Bluesky starter packs for account discovery: https://alternativeto.net/news/2026/4/mastodon-introduces-collections-its-take-on-bluesky-starter-packs-for-account-discovery/ Firefox 149.0.2 Improves the Browser Toolbar on Wayland for Linux Users: https://9to5linux.com/firefox-149-0-2-improves-the-browser-toolbar-on-wayland-for-linux-users Calibre 9.7 E-Book Manager Improves the Annotations Browser and Content Server: https://9to5linux.com/calibre-9-7-e-book-manager-improves-the-annotations-browser-and-content-server PeaZip 11.0 Archive Manager Speeds Up File Browsing and Enhances Bookmarks: https://9to5linux.com/peazip-11-0-archive-manager-speeds-up-file-browsing-and-enhances-bookmarks OBS Studio 32.1 released with overhauled audio mixer, WebRTC simulcast support, and more: https://alternativeto.net/news/2026/4/obs-studio-32-1-released-with-overhauled-audio-mixer-webrtc-simulcast-support-and-more/ OpenShot 3.5.1 Video Editor Adds New Optimize Preview Built-In Proxy Workflow: https://9to5linux.com/openshot-3-5-1-video-editor-adds-new-optimize-preview-built-in-proxy-workflow PlayStation 3 emulator RPCS3 showcases an improved handheld gaming PC experience: https://www.gamingonlinux.com/2026/04/playstation-3-emulator-rpcs3-showcases-an-improved-handheld-gaming-pc-experience/ FEX 2604 Released With Better Memory Savings For Running x86_64 Apps/Games On ARM64: https://www.phoronix.com/news/FEX-2604-Released (more FOSS news in comments) #WeeklyNews #OpenSource #FOSSNews #FOSS #OpenSourceNews #News #Odysee #FreeTube #Mastodon #Fedi #Fediverse #Firefox #Calibre #PeaZip #OBS #OBSStudio #OpenShot #RPCS3 #FEX #PS3 #FosseryTech

Okay, here's a long shot for the #Fedi hive mind. If you are in the intersection of "#musician or musician-adjacent in the 1980s" and "keyboard / #synthesizer aficionado", this one is for you. In the mid- to late-80s, I used to spend a lot of time in music / #instrument stores (not selling CDs, selling guitars and amps and drums and whatnot). Synthesizer tech was advancing rapidly at this point, with digital starting to overtake analog by leaps and bounds. At some point, one of the stores got a new #keyboard model in. I can't swear to it, but I think it was either a #Roland or a #Korg. This one had a floppy drive built in, on the side of the #synth. And they had a demo on a floppy disk that was incredible at the time. It wasn't an official #demo disk. It was a normal consumer floppy, presumably copied far and wide. Hand-Sharpied on it was the name/title "Amin Phone". It was a musical, bright and upbeat piece, rock/pop, maybe 30s long, and included digital samples of a person's voice. The entire thing was a ridiculous #answering machine outgoing #message. I think there was even a sampled voice at the end taken from someone leaving a message, commenting on it being over-the-top or something. "Amin phone" is unsearchable on the 'net. Everyone has a phone, and there are millions of people named Amin or el-Amin. Anyone else remember this? Anyone actually able to point to a recording of it? #KeyboardDemo #SynthDemo #AminPhone #Amin #AnsweringMachine #FloppyDisk

The whole fedi "just make your own instance" is super great until you're trying to like, share things you made. I hate the idea of a second acct but tbh that might be necessary if I want ppl to actually see stuffs. #fedi #mastodon

I just happened upon a reddit-thread that had been *archived*. What a bizarre cocept! Half the fun of the #Fedi is having stuff from long ago re-surface. It was this: https://www.reddit.com/r/Damnthatsinteresting/s/QCl7nKVmVT to which I wanted to add #EngelskeGloser en "gleam" ~= no "glimt"

@fromjason@mastodon.social I think @FediGarden@social.growyourown.services has a good list of +500 servers and a good list overall so that might be a good place to start? https://fedi.garden/tag/larger-post-size/ Not wanting mastodon.social blocked is fair, too; you can choose one that does not block or that limits but does not block. I would say tbh, follow a server for a little bit and pick one that you vibe with, or that has similar interests! #fedi #fediverse

Fedisie, gdzie w polskim Fedi można też założyć kanał na peerTube? Nie mam żadnych ambitnych planów, ale czasami mogę mieć potrzebę wrzucić coś w formie wideo. #Fedi #fedihelppl #peerTube

A short introduction:

I’m an introvert, antisocial tech guy 😅 I like to use FOSS software wherever possible. My family considers me a tech nerd, I consider myself a tech noob.

Hobbies: web dev (FosseryWeb), running, kayaking, listening to music (mainly electro), watching tech, gameplay and Backrooms videos.

Age: twenties

Languages: 🇭🇺 (native) / 🇬🇧 (took language exam but I feel like I still suck at it sometimes lol)

LINUX JOURNEY I’m a seasoned distrohopper, started on Linux Mint, went to Kubuntu, Ubuntu, Manjaro, Garuda, Zorin OS, Fedora, LMDE and finally Debian. Also had/have Nobara and PeppermintOS as secondary systems. As for DE, GNOME is my (almost) all-time favorite, tried out Xfce, KDE and Cinnamon, but always returned to GNOME because it’s the most comfortable to me (might also try out COSMIC) On mobile (PinePhone) I went from Manjaro Plasma to Arch Plasma/Phosh, and now I’m on posmarketOS Phosh

MY STANCE ON PRIVACY I care about my privacy, although I don’t have the highest threat model, like to keep balance between privacy and convenience (although convenience is a bit of a subjective thing, some might consider right clicking to copy username then password from KeePassXC inconvenient, I don’t lol).

PROGRAMS I USE Favorite programs:

  • LibreWolf
  • OBS Studio
  • Krita
  • KeePassXC
  • FreeTube
  • yt-dlp
  • Fluent Reader
  • Haruna
  • Joplin
  • Anki

Other programs I use:

  • Brave (for websites that don’t work in Firefox based browser - shame on those web devs - btw I provide support for all major browser engines on FosseryWeb)
  • GNOME Boxes
  • Pulsar
  • Gajim
  • Flatseal
  • Warehouse
  • Portmaster
  • Solanum
  • Switcheroo
  • Ear Tag
  • Warp (the FOSS, GTK-based file transfer app, not the proprietary terminal emulator of course)

On mobile:

  • Amberol
  • Exercise Timer
  • CoreArchiver
  • Angelfish
  • Kumo

I'm out. Fuck this toxic ass platform. Follow me on Threads if you want to talk to me in the future. I'll leave my account up for a few days just in case any mutuals wanna see this and follow me there. Afterwards, I'll be deleting my Fedi accounts and no longer pushing Fediverse anywhere else. I cannot in good faith recommend a place with such toxicity and no control. #Fediverse #Fedi #SocialMedia #Toxicity

Been back here fucking around on Loops and such for less than 12 hours and have had no less than 10-15 hate comments on my posts already. And they say corporate social media is the problem. More like elitists that think they're better than everyone else.🤦‍♂️🙄 I don't receive this much hate from corporate social media.😒 #Fediverse #Fedi #SocialMedia

#fedi #PSA: As has been documented recently, there is a strong increase of influence campaigns into the #ActivityPub spheres: yes, our communities are now big enough to attract the attention of State and State-adjacent Actors. PLEASE be cautious. If you see something which makes you sad, or angry, please do not engage until you understand why you feel emotional - you may be being manipulated into stronger reactions.
