There’s a lot more people out and about than usual in our quiet corner of the city, partly because it’s a lovely day on a long holiday weekend and partly because the highway is closed for a massive rennovation, and so people who’d normally drive around us are bicycling through and/or converging at the train station. As a result, Odin has gotten so much attention and it’s not even King’s Day yet #amsterdam

@brenttoderian.bsky.social This image keeps going around. Somebody needs to dive deeper into the story. (I am not volunteering, any more than the little I did below.) Note: I am very much against car-centric city planning. But I am also against blindly repeating claims that might be misleading. This street is apparently Zeilstraat. It is still used by cars. It seems to have four lanes nowadays, not five. And lots more cycle traffic. I am not claiming it has traffic jams like in the picture very often, I have no idea. But I don't know how common such traffic jams were in the 1970s, either. Anyway, this street still is used by cars. Was the centre of #Amsterdam in general like this in the 1970s? Hardly. Most streets were as narrow as they are now. A more useful post would be one showing some other street in the 1970s *and* now, with the current state being more pleasant, with reduced parking, trees planted, etc. And including some statistics about how car traffic has decreased and cycling increased in the centre of Amsterdam, as I assume it has.

Multiple people left my team (a Red Team in the Netherlands, in a big company understanding that security is important). L'ubicazione dell'opera del 1633, intitolata "Visione di Zaccaria nel Tempio", era rimasta sconosciuta per 65 anni, ma è stata recentemente consegnata al museo per essere analizzata. "L'analisi dei materiali, le somiglianze stilistiche e tematiche, le modifiche apportate da Rembrandt e la qualità complessiva del dipinto supportano la conclusione che questo dipinto è un'opera autentica di Rembrandt van Rijn", ha dichiarato il museo in un comunicato. Il soggetto del dipinto L'opera raffigura la scena biblica dell'Arcangelo Gabriele che visita il sommo sacerdote Zaccaria per informarlo che avrà un figlio: Giovanni Battista. Gabriele non è raffigurato nel dipinto, ma la luce che brilla nell'angolo in alto a destra ne annuncia l'arrivo. La ricerca sull'autenticità Il dipinto scomparve dalla vista del pubblico dopo che un privato lo acquistò nel 1961. L'attuale proprietario contattò il Rijksmuseum, consentendo agli esperti di studiare l'opera con moderni strumenti analitici. La loro ricerca, durata due anni, ha dimostrato che i colori utilizzati si ritrovano anche in altre opere di Rembrandt dello stesso periodo. Anche la tecnica pittorica e la stratificazione degli strati pittorici sono comparabili. Le scansioni hanno rivelato "cambiamenti compositivi che confermano l'autenticità dell'opera", ha affermato il museo. The Search for Authenticity The painting disappeared from public view after a private collector purchased it in 1961. The current owner contacted the Rijksmuseum, allowing experts to study the work with modern analytical tools. Their two-year investigation showed that the colors used are also found in other works by Rembrandt of the same period. The painting technique and the layering of paint layers are also comparable. Scans revealed “compositional changes that confirm the authenticity of the work,” the museum stated. The Confirmation and Public Exhibition Finally, the signature was deemed original and the analysis of the wooden panel confirms that the date of 1633 on the painting is also correct. “It is a beautiful example of the unique way in which Rembrandt tells stories,” commented the director of the Rijksmuseum, Taco Dibbits. The electrical company cracked open our building today to replace some equipment. While this was going on, an electrical shed several streets away spontaneously exploded and took out power for half of Amsterdam — but somehow not us. the expensive-looking equipment has been abandoned in the parking lot. I’m sure it’s fine to leave out overnight… 😅 #amsterdam
