This week will see #Westminster at its comically pompous best, full of transparent doublespeak. Most Labour MPs want #Starmer to go, 'cos if he stays, about 350 of them will lose their seats in 2029. That's more than half of all MPs. OTOH, they want him to stay for another 3 weeks, to take the blame for the massive election defeat on 7th May. This will lead to some weird manoeuvres, as Labour MPs try to fatally wound their useless, mendacious leader ... but not kill him yet. #ukpol #popcorn

🚻🚾 #Westminster City Council has reopened refurbished public toilets at the Grade II listed Piccadilly Circus Underground Station, the third site completed under a £12.7m programme to upgrade eight facilities across the West End. The works include modernised male and female toilets, a family changing room and baby-changing areas, alongside structural, drainage and waterproofing improvements and new fire safety systems. The subterranean site at Exit 1 has been updated to extend its lifespan and meet current standards. A new artwork by London artist James Lambert features hand-drawn designs on handmade tiles, inspired by Anteros and the area’s Art Deco and entertainment heritage. FM Conway led the project with Hugh Broughton Architects and Harley Haddow. Further refurbishments are planned at Green Park, Carnaby Street, Westminster Bridge, Covent Garden and Leicester Square. https://www.westminster.gov.uk/news/westminster-council-refurbishes-public-toilets-piccadilly-circus-station

@Shephallmassive@mastodon.online I fear all sensible suggestions will be ignored by those who've drunk the #Westminster kool aid.

The Restoration and Renewal (R&R) Client Board has published costed proposals for restoring the #UK Palace of #Westminster. Phase one works over seven years, capped at £3bn, include temporary Chambers, Victoria Tower refurbishment, Cloister Court restoration, underground construction, a river jetty, and off-site #heritage storage. Long-term delivery options are narrowed to two: Full Decant, with both Houses moving out, and Enhanced Maintenance and Improvement+ (EMI+), where the Lords decant and Commons remain temporarily. Alternatives, including continued presence and EMI, were discounted due to higher costs, longer duration, safety and heritage risks. A final decision is expected by 2030. https://www.parliament.uk/business/news/2026/feb-2026/delivering-restoration-and-renewal-of-the-palace-of-westminster-the-costed-proposals-published/
