@semifor@ack.nerdfight.online nodds in agreement I mean @mrmasterkeyboard@mastodon.social would've prefered not having to do a fork of #vim called #EVi but the #AIslop being accepted into vim forced their hands...

@ErikJonker@mastodon.social @Enalys@mastodon.zergy.net not really espechally when the maintainer, @mrmasterkeyboard@mastodon.social , literally did fork #EVi out of #Vim to remove any #SlopCode. So expecting any "#AI" useage or #AIslop acceptance is like expecting vegans out of conciousness to seek employment as butcherers at a slaughterhouse:You'd have an easier time to get Germany to decriminalize machine guns AND institute a national speed limit on motorways AT THE SAME TIME! I should copy that policy!

A eulogy to vim https://drewdevault.com/2026/03/25/2026-03-25-Forking-vim.html

I didn’t know #vim is relying on LLMs, so this was news to me, Drew has opinions…

To keep my conscience clear, and continue to enjoy the relationship I have with this amazing piece of software, I have forked Vim. You can find my fork here: Vim Classic. https://sr.ht/~sircmpwn/vim-classic/

@soller@floss.social Just the other day I was barked at and blocked, in the context of the #vim "controversy" For saying that if you insist on #Ai #vibecode free purity... ...you will be using a clay tablet for your computing needs soon. And here we are. I'm looking forward to a HomoSapiensLinux fork where every line of code is chiseled from a pure human bone with tools forged in artisan smithy... ...that's going to collapse in controversy because major contributors will be sprung vibecoding 😄 BTW: Any of you read that .md file before conniptions? Would be good idea to get some human #codemonkeys to comply with the directives there 😁

EDIT: I updated the fork to last commit before the AI slop. It's now relatively new. hard-forked vim at release 9.1.0 (Jan 2024) https://codeberg.org/NerdNextDoor/vim maybe we can get a group of people behind this?? Fuck AI. #VIm #FuckAI #Tech #Technology

The choice to pick between #emacs and #vim is much more difficult because although emacs features look really cool being part of the cult of vim also sounds really cool

The best time to learn #vim is yesterday, the second-best is today.

New post: Neovim Crash Course for Sysadmins Not a beginner's guide. This covers the things you still get wrong after years of Vim - efficient navigation, why your paste lands in the wrong place (and the one-key fix), YAML indentation workflows, quick macros, and what Neovim's LSP actually gives you for infrastructure work. Written for people who edit configs and playbooks all day. https://blog.hofstede.it/neovim-crash-course-for-sysadmins-the-20-that-solve-80-of-the-pain/ #neovim #vim #sysadmin #devops #linux #ansible #yaml
