Governments failed to deliver $160m of river improvements including for now-parched NSW wetlands, report finds “Quite simply the environment is the loser along with the taxpayer...The failure to implement what was promised means that turtles, fish and wetlands die.” The Greens environment spokesperson, Sarah Hanson-Young, said the report “makes it abundantly clear that despite millions of dollars being splashed around, it has not gone to protecting the river”. >> https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2026/apr/23/governments-failed-to-deliver-160m-of-river-improvements-including-for-now-parched-nsw-wetlands-report-finds #water #wetlands #failure #MDB #biodiversity #wildlife #EnvironmentalFlows #ecosystems #rivers #NSW #RAMSAR #governance

WaterNSW criticised for ‘appalling’ decision after hundreds of turtles left to die in wetlands "Environmental flows refer to water released by the government from dams and tributaries into rivers and ecosystems to restore their health. The Gingham watercourse is home to three turtle species, the broad-shelled turtle, the Murray River turtle and the eastern long-necked turtle." "Cutmore said she was “not happy with what’s gone down” and was concerned irrigators were “calling the shots over and over”. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2026/apr/21/water-nsw-criticised-for-appalling-decision-after-hundreds-of-turtles-left-to-die-in-wetlands #biodiversity #turtles #wetland #EnvironmentalFlows #irrigation #cotton #NSW #wildlife #water #extractivism

Headline says it all really: "NSW police end restriction on protests now Israeli president has left the country" "The New South Wales police commissioner has ended a restriction on protests that effectively banned marches in designated areas, now that the Israeli president, Isaac Herzog, has left Australia. On Tuesday, GE-Mal Lanyon announced the restriction would cease, meaning protest organisers can once again use the form 1 system to facilitate marches with police, without the risk of being arrested in the Sydney CBD and the eastern suburbs." https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2026/feb/17/nsw-police-protest-restrictions-end-sydney-isaac-herzog-ntwnfb #Complicit #GenocideEnabling #Corruption #NSW #PoliceBrutality #News #HumanRights #Activism

NSW police watchdog [who report directly to GE-Minns] to investigate *alleged* [confirmed from video evidence from multiple angles] police brutality at Sydney protest against Isaac Herzog [to give the public an illusion of accountability] "Despite premier Chris Minns’s objection to any inquiry, Law Enforcement Conduct Commission says it is in public interest to investigate ‘alleged misconduct’" 🙄 https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2026/feb/13/police-watchdog-to-investigate-alleged-police-brutality-at-sydney-protest-against-isaac-herzog-ntwnfb #Corruption #AUSPol #NSW #GEMinns #HumanRights #Activism #News

NSW *Police* have crossed the line.. "Allegations of police throwing punches Labor backbencher Anthony D’Adam says he saw police punching people and throwing someone to the ground, as tensions heated up at the Sydney protest. He said initially police were “getting good cooperation from the crowd”, but then an officer pushed his bike into a woman and “clearly hurt her”. When she got angry, another officer pushed her into the crowd and other bystanders, who fell over, were shocked and angry, and started yelling. He said: That then resulted in a number of other officers joining the fray. They grabbed someone and threw them on to the ground, and then they were just throwing punch after punch at this person. It just seemed totally over the top in terms of the police reaction. D’Adam went on to say that it was because the police didn’t have enough “scope” to manage the crowd and disperse people, and said if the government had allowed the protesters to march up George Street it wouldn’t have happened." #PoliceState #AUICE #AUSPol #News #HumanRights #NSW #Australia
