We have designated WhatsApp as a Very Large Online Platform under the Digital Services Act.
As WhatsApp Channels reaches 45 million EU users, it must now meet higher safety and transparency standards, including risk assessment and content moderation.
These rules focus on keeping public broadcasts safe for all, while ensuring your private messages stay private.

Gerade bei #AntisocialMedia welche zentralisiert sind und damit entsprechende #Verantwortbarkeit sowie #Konseqienzen trivialst umsetzbar sind!#DSA wird fsktisch nirgendwo eingehalten!

Several European countries are considering social media bans for children. We must regulate platforms, not children. We must shift the burden of safety from the children to the corporations that profit from the environment.
I urge caution:
✅ Focus on "safety by design"
✅ Demand algorithmic transparency
✅ Enforce the #DSA & #HumanRights standards
✅ Consult experts, civil society and children

A long day at #fosdem but awesome to meet fellow Volters from our DigiCom community.
Spend most of my time in the Open Source & EU Policy track - with carried a message between the lines that change will only happen, if there is sufficient public pressure - for example to apply the #DSA or to prevent breaking #cryptography. Let's work on pressure! 💪🇪🇺
