Let's hope Smith's UCP takes this as a message and drops this new gerrymandering legislation... https://globalnews.ca/news/11812868/supreme-court-rejects-quebec-election-map/ #ableg #yyc #yeg #elections #Alberta

Since those days, and the present ability to obtain #allergy-safe (for me) #silicone #ElastomericRespirators, the tool has sat unused among many items from those early desperate days. As locals will recall, 2020 was when #Edmonton experienced the beginning of the #pandemic. 2021 was our first-ever #HeatDome. 2022 and thereafter to the present has seen long stretches of #ExtremeHeat and the switch from #SummerSeason to #WildfireSeason, adding frequently horrendous #AirQuality to the sustained heat. #yeg #ClimateChange #wildfires 4/x

Now, the Hoarding Foundation of Alberta is, imnsho, great. 🙂 Prior to the beginning of the #covid19 #pandemic I had gone to their in-person support group and found some very useful strategies for dealing with what I recognised could become a significant problem. Back then, they weren't even a formal organisation yet and I'm pleased that they've come so far to provide much-needed expertise on this disorder. Check them out here! 🙂 https://www.hdfa.ca 13/x #hoarding #materials #objects #accessibility #Alberta #yeg

April 16th was cold. #yegwx #yeg Its High of -0.5°C was our 5th coldest on record, and Low of -8.2°C was 6th coldest. That made it our coldest April 16th since 1989, although 2002 was close. The average High for mid-April is 10°C, and Low is -1°C. https://public.tableau.com/shared/TGTR5TTBG?:display_count=n&:origin=viz_share_link

RE: https://flipboard.com/@cbcnews/edmonton-5aq1688az/-/a-fs_rwp1xTguUrdROl8LX_A%3Aa%3A107108217-%2F0 Edmonton's police chief watched the israelis murder tens of thousands of people including thousands of children, and then warched the UN call it genocide and issue an arrest warrant for israeli leader netanyahu. Then the police chief decided to go to israel to get some training from the bloodlust israeli regime. Now he has ai and body cams on the residents and visitors of the Indigenous and NDP strong city. Oh yeah, the chief is also aligned with the traitor UCP. #Yeg #AbPoli

The Alberta oil & gas industry is full of scofflaws, it would seem, and they are being protected by the very government structures that are supposed to protect us from then. The fact that they are letting rural landowners, who live in the heart of the UCP support base, get this angry tells how incompetent they are. #ableg #yyc #yeg #oil https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QMo1a9huZCo

Whenever I walk under the low level bridge I wonder how much life it has left in it. I'm sure the city has inspectors who are monitoring corrosion rates, but it still looks pretty bad when the coatings are completely disbonded in large sections. #yeg

If you're cold, they're cold. Wrap your buildings in an extra layer before letting them out in extreme cold conditions. #yeg

Am I correct that there is about, say, 4-8 times more #yeg than #yyc posts on the Fediverse. Or, perhaps, have I subsequently followed more Edmonton people? I don't think so. May I need to post more Calgary-centric stuff to liven things up. #Alberta

@jsstaedtler@mastodon.art three years ago i decided that i wanted to be an interactive media artist, I began putting together a portfolio for applying to an art school (macewan university in #yeg). they had a one page doc that explained what a portfolio was, what to include, and what *not* to include at the top of the don’t-include list was “manga and/or anime illustrations”. Not Real Art rang out loud and clear. i immediately understood what the culture was like in that fine art department. people with absolutely no understanding of contemporary art culture, and still stuck in the same boring ideas that they were trained on 30 years ago. i have absolutely no ability to draw/paint manga, but even with my limited understanding of the medium there is no doubt much of it is art. right then and there i realized fine art school had nothing to teach me that i couldn’t learn on my own. i abandoned that career path and invested all that time (and 1/100th of the money) into developing my artistic craft, with my own sense for aesthetic quality and pride of craftsmanship we all know when we’ve done shitty work, and when we’ve done good work. no one outside of your discipline gets to decide if it has artistic merit. only people you respect within your artistic medium get to have any say at all. a lot of words to say: thanks MacEwan fine art dept - your absolute hatred of manga was exactly the kick in the ass i needed to become an artist!

February in Edmonton! When the sun stays in the sky longer, but the snow & ice still stick around — and there's lots to do indoors & out. And hey, we're less than a week in & I've got a calendar thread for you all! Which is important because there are lots of excellent concerts, plus theatre & festivals, all starting this weekend! #YEG Festivals & Special Events: Still on: Winter City Weekends at the City Hall rink. "Ice Grooves" has DJs planning Fri & Sat evenings, while "Swing & Skate" on Sunday afternoons has live bands playing inside City Hall (dancing encouraged), with the audio piped outside to the skaters. Back on after melt-related closure (unless it's melted again...): Ice Castles at Fan Park downtown. $15-24 (+fees). Feb 7&8: Togather Chinatown Arts Festival at Pacific Mall (105 Ave @ 97 St), with a vendor's market and live performances. 1/??

Be careful out there this morning, #yeg. It's a literal skating rink after the freezing rain. #yegtraffic
