@Arusekk@infosec.exchange I'll be able to go #IPv6 once it's mandatory. Sadly it ain't but in fact many applications mandate #IPv4 to this day…I unsarcastically want #IPv8 (minus the obvious bullshit!) The only reason IPv6 traffic is increasing is propably becaise #MNO|s and #MVNOs still do #CGNAT on #RFC1918 address spaces, thus bricking #VPN|s. This was literally the reason I had to setup #DualStack at some company!

Firefox is adding a free, built-in browser VPN (starting in version 149) for users in the US, UK, France, and Germany, with 50GB of monthly data. It only protects traffic inside Firefox—not other apps so it’s useful for casual privacy but not a full system-wide VPN replacement.

  1. Firefox is adding a free, built-in VPN to the browser starting with version 149, initially for users in the US, UK, France, and Germany, with over 50GB of data per month.

  2. This VPN works only inside Firefox, protecting just browser traffic not other apps, other browsers, or system-wide network activity so it’s not a full replacement for a stand-alone VPN.

  3. Free VPNs can be risky, but Mozilla says its service follows its privacy and data principles; its VPN tech has been independently audited and uses the secure WireGuard protocol.

  4. Experts warn the limited scope might give non-technical users a false sense of full protection, even though it only covers web browsing in Firefox.

  5. Security expert Jacob Kalvo says it’s good for casual use and the 50GB limit is generous, but he doesn’t recommend it for sensitive data, competitive intelligence, or large-scale operations.

@certified_expert@lemmy.world I don't trust my ISP or the government above it. I think everyone here today doesn't trust their ISP and government. Use a #VPN or #TOR,Your ISP will only know the destination point, all traffic will be encrypted through a #tunnel You said you installed a router. How did you configure the modem? In Full Bridge? Also start changing your #DNS, don't use your ISP's default ones

DNS leak protection is a security feature in VPNs that forces all web browsing queries (DNS requests) through an encrypted VPN tunnel, preventing them from being exposed to your Internet Service Provider (ISP). It prevents hackers or ISPs from seeing your browsing history and location, ensuring your traffic stays private and secure. https://windows101tricks.com/what-is-dns-leak-protection/ What is DNS leak protection? It’s a VPN feature that keeps your DNS requests inside the encrypted VPN tunnel and away from your ISP’s DNS servers. What is a DNS leak in VPN? It’s when your DNS queries escape the VPN tunnel and go to your ISP’s DNS servers, revealing the websites you visit. How DNS leak protection works: It routes all DNS traffic through VPN DNS servers, blocks DNS outside the tunnel, and may use firewall rules and a kill switch. How to test DNS leak in VPN: Connect to your VPN, visit a DNS leak test website, run a test, and check if the DNS servers match your VPN server location. Does VPN prevent DNS leaks? Only if the VPN is designed with proper DNS leak protection and configured correctly. @followers #VPN #DNS #security #Tech #privacy #DNSLeak

A VPN secures your internet connection by encrypting traffic and masking your IP address, but it does not make you fully anonymous. It won’t stop tracking via cookies, browser fingerprinting, or website login activity. https://windows101tricks.com/what-vpns-can-cant-do/ #VPN #security #privacy #Internet #tech

Wisconsin State Senate wants to: • Ban VPNs • Force age verification on sites with "harmful" content • Collect government IDs, financial data, biometrics just for lawful speech Translation: track every adult, ban privacy tools, build a database of everyone's identity. They call it protection. History calls it control. #Censorship #Privacy #VPN
