The Guardian | Altman apologizes after OpenAI failed to alert police before fatal Canada shooting by Associated Press AI generated summary, Read the full article for complete information. Sam Altman, the co‑founder and CEO of OpenAI, issued a public apology after his company failed to alert police about an account that was later linked to a deadly shooting in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia, where eight people were killed. In a letter posted on the province’s premier’s social media, Altman expressed his deepest condolences to the victims’ families and the community, acknowledged the company’s missed opportunity to refer the account—identified in June through abuse‑detection tools—to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police because it did not meet an internal threshold for law‑enforcement referral, and pledged to work with governments to improve safeguards and prevent future tragedies. He noted his conversations with local officials, who conveyed the community’s anger and grief, and reaffirmed OpenAI’s commitment to stronger preventative measures. This is horrific and MUST result in criminal charges and massive civil damages to the victims and their families OpenAI knew of the Tumbler Ridge shooter's mindset and likely intentions months before she went on a killing spree The RCMP and Canadian Government must take all possible action against the company and the owners - sue them into bankruptcy #BCpoli #CDNpoli #TumblerRidge https://www.wsj.com/us-news/law/openai-employees-raised-alarms-about-canada-shooting-suspect-months-ago-b585df62?st=2fuGuQ&reflink=desktopwebshare_permalink

The amount of hate being pushed out right now by alt-right and right-wing pundits and officials is downright disgusting and reprehensible. Regardless of your social caste, gender, or other identity, you are welcome on the fediverse and at mstdn.ca. The absolute tragedy in Tumbler Ridge is incredibly heartbreaking, and we likely will never know the whole story. Right now, we need to hold space for the victims, the community, and make sure that those in our lives who identify as transgender know that they are loved, and always will be. #canada #TumblerRidge #britishcolumbia #cdnpoli #canpoli #TransRightsAreHumanRights
