On the 1890 map this cobbled road in Smedley Vale in the Irk Valley leads to a bridge over the Irk. Will look for remains of it next time, but not carry on this way as to get back on the path behind the view here I had to climb a very steep bank strewn with fly-tipped rubbish . #FootpathFriday #RiverIrk #SmedleyVale #Manchester

The Irk goes under train and tram lines near Scotland in central Manchester, where a Jacobite army is thought to have massed, thus the name. I have seen kingfishers very near here! #riverirk #manchester

Looking into Manchester city centre from the bridge, which takes Collyhurst Road over the tram, formerly train lines. The tram is passing over the River Irk in the foreground. I have seen dippers in the Irk at Smedley Dip below. #Manchester #RiverIrk #Collyhurst #Wintersky
